Director of Design Job Description
As we enter the next phase of Paysend’s growth, we’re looking for a Director of Design to lead and grow our remote Product Design team across our Consumer, Business and Enterprise tribes. This role will report to our Chief Product Officer.
Each tribe is divided into a set of independent Missions with their own objectives and key results (OKRs), who create and deliver their own roadmaps with cross-functional teams made up of experts from across the company. In 2022, we will increase the number of Missions from 7 to 12, and therefore we will need to grow the design team in line with this from its current size of 6.
Further, there will be the opportunity to evolve how we work to maintain our efficiency and standards at the increased scale. You will be the guardian of the Jobs to be Done (JTBD) across all of our tribes and missions; you will establish a small customer research team to truly capture the voice of the customer; you will introduce new design practices such as a lightweight design system to help the team maintain their speed and consistency; and you will continually look to raise the bar on the quality of the UX and visual design work of the team.
What you’ll be doing
Being the overall owner for Design, and ensuring that our Mission teams design ‘best of the best’ products that get right to the heart of the customer's needs, and make our products stand out from our competitors.
Building a world class team of remote designers, building processes that allow them to do great work, and coaching them along the way.
Establishing and maintaining a consistently used set of JTBD across all Tribes and Missions. You will ensure that everyone at Paysend understands exactly what our customers are trying to achieve with our product.
Creating an open culture that encourages designers to get feedback from customers and experts in the company, so we design great products.
Raising the awareness of Paysend amongst the industry and design community as a company that does great design work.
What you’ll need to be successful in the role
Have a track record as a design leader from previous high-growth tech companies. Fintech experience is nice to have. Experience across consumer, direct business and enterprise is a strong plus.
Have unrealistically high standards of design so that we always stay ahead of our competition. You’ll also know when to move iteratively and quickly rather than trying to get something perfect first time.
Be a role model in the Paysend Principles, so you can coach the existing team and raise the bar further by hiring more great designers.
Be an empathetic leader who builds great relationships with their team so that you get the best out of the team and they stay working for Paysend for a long time.
Be a great writer, communicator, and builder of relationships with experts across the company so they are welcomed into the design process in a way that ultimately helps us build better products.
