Our user base has doubled in the last year alone, and we have paid over $500 million directly to creators on our platform. In order to support this level of growth, Patreon is looking for a Head of Payments Operations and Partnerships.
As the Head of Payments Operations and Partnerships, you will be responsible for helping to shape and drive strategy, operations and partnerships across Global Payments and Billing in support of business needs and priorities of Patreon’s markets.
 
Your work ensures payment systems and partners are seamlessly and flawlessly integrated, so Patrons can easily subscribe to Memberships and Creators can payout globally. In addition, you will own the strategy for building and managing a global network of local Payment Partners that produce the right mix of optimal payment options. 
 
What you will do:
  • Drive vision and execution as an important member of the Payments product area leadership team
  • Develop and execute the partnership strategies with acquires, card networks and methods of payments and programs to enable our product and business strategy; work with product and engineering teams to identify product gaps that can be addressed through partnerships
  • Work cross-functionally to ensure operational excellence with our partners, with a particular focus on growth, margins, and user experience
  • Be a thought leader in how the Global Payments and Billing teams approach the markets, products, experiences, and capabilities.
Projects you may work on:
 
Payment Operations
  • Manage reporting and monitor metrics to analyze payment platform performance.
  • Partner with the PMs to drive innovation and constantly improve the user experience.
  • Partner with Engineering to lead auth rate optimization opportunities.
  • Maintain knowledge of industry best practices, trends, and performance benchmarks.
  • Support launches of new payment options and partner onboarding.
  • Drive issue and incident identification and business impact analysis.
  • Work with external payment partners and manage existing partnerships.
  • Contribute requirements and insight to create world class products and processes to operate a global online payment platform.
Partner Relationships
  • Partnership strategy; Support definition of long-term partner management strategies to optimize economics/ influence industry rules
  • Coordinate partner-related projects with internal teams and act as their point of escalation.
  • Define and monitor metrics to improve partners’ performance; lead QBRs
  • Benchmark and execute card interchange and approval rates optimization strategies.
  • Establish best practices; influence direction based on industry knowledge and market research
  • Identify potential new partners to support strategic trajectory
  • Manage and conduct analysis of partner capabilities, joint offering, pricing, and terms, both in response to specific business needs and proactively identify opportunities for future optimization
Skills and experience you possess:
  • Extensive merchant experience in digital/subscription payments, ideally on a multi-regional or global scale as well as experience growing partnerships (domestically and internationally).
  • In-depth payment business and technical domain knowledge including interchange, payment systems, payment risk, business development, tax, legal, and accounting.
  • A history of working in a product/engineering-first company.
  • Strong decision making skills, able to prioritize and guide teams through competing demands and complex problems
  • Strong problem solving skills and experience working with senior executives to identify, scope, and structure key strategy initiatives
  • Results oriented and a biased toward action, great collaborator - constantly pushing toward clarity and deliver
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment and is comfortable managing uncertainty
  • Being able to couple attention to detail with swift execution.
  • Experience working closely with business, product and engineering functions.
  • Be hands-on, data-driven, and attentive to detail; superb communication and organization skills
  • Strong quantitative analytical skills including the ability to interpret large structured data, develop recommendations and analysis.
  • A track record of leading high performing partnership teams in a product centric company with significant internal and external dependencies
  • Broad and deep experience executing industry-wide partnership strategies to build innovative product experiences and go to market models
