Job Purpose

Working within the platform team (Linux), you will be involved with building systems especially in the AWS cloud.  The role would oversee the progression from development to test to pre-prod and production live.  As well as maintaining the environments, you’ll also have an influence in their evolution.

Main duties

  • Support the release flow from development through to production, and help manage the environments used in the product release process
  • Support our production environments
  • Participate in evolving our build, deployment, and release management practices towards a continuous integration/continuous deployment model
  • Develop tools and processes for managing VMs and applications in a distributed deployment model in a hybrid VM/container environment
  • Management of production web services
  • Systems automation
  • General systems administration
  • Troubleshooting and problem resolution
  • Manage patching / vulnerability assessments and remediation
  • Provision of evidence for internal and external audit (PCI & ISO) requirements
  • Must be able to provide out of hours cover when necessary

Essential Technical Attributes

  • Degree level qualification, ideally this will be Software Engineering / IT related
  • Experience of AWS in a production enterprise environment
  • Experience with virtualisation and/or cloud technologies
  • Experience and full understanding of scripting with Terraform
  • Experience of Linux Systems Administration
  • Ability to automate system configuration and management using scripts and configuration management tools
  • A very good understanding of networks

Other (“nice to have”) Technical Attributes

  • Experience with build automation (e.g. Jenkins etc.)
  • Experience of the full SDLC and agile development practices
  • Configuration management tools such as Ansible
  • Monitoring tools (system-level, ELK stack, etc.)
  • AWS qualification
  • Working knowledge of Database technologies including SQL and NoSQL based products

  • Worked for at least one company
  • Taken a technical project from inception through to delivery
  • Experience of working closely with customers and/or end-users
  • A broad understanding of IT and internet technologies, with a deep knowledge of one area of specialisation.
