Parallel Bio finds the fastest path to drugs that work for more people by starting in human systems first. Our platform replicates the human immune system in a dish across populations to discover cures at a pace never seen before. Come join us on our mission to flip the 95% drug failure rate to a 95% success rate.
What we do:
Our immune systems are master regulators of health and disease. Current tools used to discover drugs that target the immune system are wildly inadequate. To fix this critical gap, Parallel Bio created a human ‘immune system in a dish’ to rapidly accelerate the development of new drugs and immunotherapies more likely to work in patients. This is the first step on our journey to build a new type of biopharma by reimagining the way we cure disease. Our mission is to design and engineer breakthrough tools inspired by human biology, starting with replacing ineffectual mouse and synthetic platforms.
We are seeking a creative and motivated Scientist to join our team to improve our current discovery platform, execute on strategic partnerships, and support our junior scientists.
What you will do:
- Champion our research and development efforts; as a key member of our team, 80% of your role will take place in the lab where you will push the boundaries of our platform. Your expertise will improve organoid functionality and longevity. You will integrate immune organoids with other organoid systems and develop various novel disease models. You will be hands-on conducting organoid experiments in tissue culture - establishing, troubleshooting and teaching assays to others. You will help scale and automate our platform and provide feedback on the in-house big data analytics methods we’re developing. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the future direction of the company and pioneering unexplored territories where literature and precedent is scarce.
- Support our partnerships and drive platform improvements; you will familiarize yourself with our partnership goals and provide expertise to establish and execute work plans. You will integrate feedback from partnership outcomes to drive R&D improvements and synergistically integrate what is learned to advance the platform holistically.
- Provide mentorship in our lab to our junior staff; you will lead from the bench, model experimental excellence, and serve as a subject matter expert. You will do this by establishing project work plans and SOPs, leading meetings, and keeping an eye out for resource and bandwidth bottlenecks. As a marker of success, the junior scientists will feel comfortable approaching you as a reliable leader, mentor, and collaborator.
Who you are:
- You have a PhD in immunology, cell biology, or related fields. You have either academic or industry postdoctoral experience leading projects in immunology and/or drug discovery. Ideally, you have expertise in lymphoid tissue development and immune response dynamics. You likely have previous experience working with organoid models, 3D tissue culture, disease model development, and a broad range of biological assays and immune response characterization techniques.
- You embrace failure; you’re not afraid of failure because you know that the work we’re doing is brand new territory and it will take a lot of persistence and experimentation to move forward. When you face failures or roadblocks you don't get bogged down because you have a “we’ll figure it out” mentality.
- You’re excited by making an impact and have a continuous desire to learn; you have likely found that you’d prefer to work outside of academia and think joining a ground-breaking startup would be an excellent fit for you. You’re motivated by real-world problems and derive energy from being in an environment fueled by innovation and challenge. You are comfortable learning in an area where there isn’t already a lot of published research to guide your activities. You want to try new things, and are passionate about working towards results.
You’re a strong leader; because our junior scientists will be looking to you for mentorship, guidance and development, you will have no problem stepping up as a mentor and leader to support them through individual and team challenges and victories.
- You’re a collaborative team-player; you think about the bigger picture and your impact within the team versus your individual contributions. You bring energy to your work that's infectious and helps keep others motivated.
Your generous compensation package will include a base salary of ~$100,000, unlimited PTO, 401K plan with matching, as well as comprehensive health, dental, vision and wellness benefits.
Why work with us:
As experts in human drug discovery, we have worked hard to position the company for success and to expand our team. We are funded by some of the world’s best investors: Y Combinator, Refactor Capital, Breakout Ventures, leaders from pharma, tech, government, and more. You’re joining an incredibly ambitious team at an early enough time to help us define our culture, choices, and impact success. We will have the highest expectations of you, just as we do of ourselves. Join us in re-imagining what’s possible with immunotherapy!
We are building a diverse, interdisciplinary team of dreamers and doers. Forget incrementalism and leave low-risk ideas at the door. We’re looking for fellow visionaries hungry for real impact in reimagining every facet of how we cure disease. Some of our values: first principles thinking, burning passion, and a drive to work with people with like-minded values; thinking outside the box and the ability to envision that which has not yet been built; listen, then talk; don’t forget to have fun; cooperation, trust, ethics, and transparency.
