The Role

We are looking for a Staff Cloud Platform Engineer to join our globally distributed, rapidly growing Platform Runtime team. This team develops and supports Pantheon’s customer sites’ runtime infrastructure (Application, DB, Cache, Index servers, Version Control) and strives to continually improve its performance and capabilities.

Cool Things You'll Do

  • Work on advanced global-scale implementations of WordPress and Drupal CMS systems using the latest in Google Cloud platform offerings.
  • With your team, own and drive the technical roadmap for one or more of the customer site’s runtime infrastructure (application servers like php, nginx, proxysql, database servers like MariaDB, CloudSQL, proxysql, Percona Tools, Vitess, cache servers like Redis and Memorystore, index servers- Solr, and version control-Git).
  • Plan upgrades, assess, and support performance.
  • Collaborate with the engineeering org and product teams on initiatives, and provide your valued input on them.
  • Own your team’s production systems, measure and track their health with SLO’s, and assist our dedicated support team to resolve production issues.
  • Work with an eye on continuously improving our standard of engineering excellence by implementing best practices for coding, testing, deploying, and communication.
  • Support Pantheon as a member of the on-call engineer rotation, contributing to the stability, reliability, and performance of the infrastructure that drives Pantheon's success.

What you Bring to the Table

  • Profound coding experience in Go and/or python.
  • You enjoy and have experience with large-scale, high-traffic platforms and the design of scalable, robust services in the real world.
  • You can contribute to technical architecture discussions and help drive technical decisions.
  • You enjoy all aspects of Platform Engineering from development to operations.
  • You are comfortable working with a team that is distributed globally.
  • You are a clear communicator, able to represent your contributions and ideas with clarity while remaining open and giving space to the contributions and ideas of others.
  • You take pride in what you can do as part of a team.
  • Any familiarity with data replication strategies is a plus.
