More about this Ozow fantastic position 

Ozow is looking for a Database Administrator that has experience administering AWS hosted database servers in RDS. You will perform normal database administration duties such as performance tuning, ensuring backups are done and testing backups, monitoring database performance and improving it where necessary as well as ensuring that the databases and data are securely stored and accessed, all with the twist of being done in AWS RDS so experience there is tantamount to success in this role.  


You are an ideal candidate if you have: 

  • An IT diploma or degree 
  • At least 3 years work-related experience  
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server  
  • Experience with PostgreSQL or MySQL  
  • Experience with AWS RDS  
  • DBA experience working with Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL/MySQL hosted on AWS RDS  
  • Experience working with a database performance analyser tool (e.g. Solarwinds DPA)  
  • Experience identifying and fine-tuning queries and indexes to optimize database performance  
  • Experience managing database backups and restoration in AWS  
  • Experience with disaster recovery testing and planning  
  • Experience managing minor and major updates to RDS instances  
  • Experience with database archiving strategies and implementing them.  
  • AWS DMS (advantageous). 
  • DynamoDB experience (advantageous). 
  • Data migration between database technologies (e.g. from MS SQL Server to PostgreSQL) (advantageous).

Interview process: 

  • Step One: Our Talent Team will carefully review your application in line with the job description. 
  • Step Two: If there is a match, we will set up a 30 minute, remote interview with the Head of Infrastructure
  • Step Three: If there is a match we will send an online assessment for you to showcase your skills. 
  • Step Four: There will be an interview with members of our Technology team, who will work closely with you in this role. 
  • Step Five: Our CEO/Chief People Officer will meet with you remotely before finalising the hiring process. 


Location of the position: 

  • This position is based in Cape Town, Johannesburg, or Remote.
