People Operations Director  

Overtime Sports seeks an experienced People Operations Director to focus on people operations, benefits, compliance, culture and more. You’ll join a strong team reporting into the VP, working closely with the wider HR team, regularly partnering with our operations team and payroll manager, and directly managing a team of two – a senior and junior HR generalist. You'll work across the entire Overtime organization with every department. This is a cross-functional, highly collaborative role that will require you to think strategically about setting up our company for rapid growth, building upon our strong culture, and keeping our crew compliant. We’re looking for someone with a track record of building processes and systems, a can-do-it attitude, superb communication skills, and a strong attention to detail. 

What You’ll Do

As a member of a fast-moving, highly adaptable team you’ll get to lead and work on a variety of tasks. Here are a few of key responsibilities: 

  • Mentor and manage a team of two generalists, partner with payroll manager. Act as a player-coach leading team focused on compliance, compensation and benefits, employee life-cycle events, and HR-focused operations.   
  • Lead major business and employee events such as annual open enrollment and process of enhancing and upgrading our employee handbook. Propose and implement changes in keeping with our people-first mentality. 
  • Proactively stay informed of changing laws, propose thoughtful solutions, partner with the Legal department, and implement final decisions. Identify improvements through auditing and thoughtful dialogue around compliance risks. 
  • Spearhead completion of transition from PEO to new HRIS.
  • Revamp contractor process to ensure compliance and ease of use for colleagues
  • Responsible for all local, state, and national compliance-based reports and training such as EEO-1 report, 401k testing, anti-harassment training, etc. 
  • Be an active co-creator of our culture of positivity, safety, and inclusivity.  
  • Contribute to DEI efforts along with our leadership team and internal committees.
  • Maintain a high level of flexibility adapting to fast-moving business, find opportunities to connect reactive work with proactive improvements. 

Who you are

  • 6+ years or more of experience HR, ideally in compliance-heavy HR roles. 
  • Experience managing at least one direct report.  
  • Passion for excellent project management. You can juggle swift and small projects to large-scale projects spanning months of tasks and shifting timelines. 
  • Superb communication skills in both written and verbal mediums. You can adapt your communication to junior employees, the HR team, and executive-level staff across large and small groups and 1-1 communications. 
  • Excellent at distilling complex HR matters to key questions, takeaways, and actionable tasks.  
  • Love for building culture, finding creative solutions, and changing the face of HR to be more human-focused.
  • Strong believer in the power and value of DEI. 
  • Knowledge of HR laws in NY, CA, and national level.
  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now.
  • Start-up experience a bonus.
