Position Summary
Orr Group is seeking a Senior Director & Head of Finance to join our team at a pivotal time of growth. In close coordination with Orr Group’s Executive Committee, the Senior Director will oversee the financial function of Orr Group, inform the firm’s financial decision making, and provide strategic financial input to senior management peers. The Senior Director will provide direct oversight of the firm’s outsourced accounting agency, ensuring alignment with Orr Group’s financial strategies and protocols, and inform the vision and development of the Finance Team’s structure over the long term. In addition, the Senior Director will implement financial procedures to maintain the financial health of our firm and improve our ability to forecast future growth. Finally, the Senior Director & Head of Finance will help the President and other leadership assess the market for Orr Group offering financial services to our nonprofit clients in the future.
Responsibilities
- Execute the successful financial management of the firm, including forecasting and analysis of finances.
- Initially, manage Orr Group’s external accounting firm, serving as a day-to-day conduit between internal staff and this third-party provider. Oversight includes, but is not limited to:
- Ensuring bills are paid, invoices are issued, receivables are collected, and accounts are reconciled on a timely basis.
- Reviewing and approving check and ACH payment transactions.
- Maintaining the integrity of expense report processes and costs allocations.
- Procuring reports and necessary financial data timely and accurately to enable strategic and tactical budgeting as well as real-time forecasting.
- Ultimately, the Senior Director & Head of Finance will be responsible for assessing and determining the best, most cost-effective way to structure and resource our finance department.
- Proactively provide insights on strategies to continue to increase the financial health of the company.
- Set and coordinate the annual budget and determine and post accruals.
- Perform semi-monthly and year-end financial, cash flow, and revenue versus expense forecasts with timely reporting of actual results versus budget variances.
- Ensure timely and accurate payrolls and co-manage health and retirement benefits with Human Resources staff.
- Oversee time-tracking and job costing system, using data to determine staffing and profitability issues and to post “billable expenses” to clients/teams in Unanet.
- Collaborate with leaders across the firm to determine annual internal rates and billing rates for each staff level.
- Forecast and manage tax liabilities, co-prepare tax forms, and execute tax payments in collaboration with Orr Group’s tax accountant.
- Renew annual Line of Credit and manage bank, suppliers, and other corporate relationships.
- Identify and manage insurance policies and appropriate internal controls to mitigate financial, legal, and operational risks.
- Review, approve, and execute legal, real estate, client, and vendor agreements.
- Work with leadership to assess the potential of Orr Group offering financial services to nonprofit clients.
Qualifications
The Senior Director will have at least ten (10) years of professional experience managing the finances of similar for-profit/professional services organizations with budgets in excess of $10M.
- Bachelor’s degree (MA/MBA preferred) in Business, Management, or Finance.
- Professional certificates are a plus. (CPA, CFA, FTP, QuickBooks Certification, Certificate of Nonprofit Board Consulting, etc.)
- Experience should include legal, audit, compliance, budget, and resource development management.
- Experience assessing finance team resources needs and structuring and managing a finance team and/or outsourced finance support.
- Knowledge of for-profit accounting, compliance, regulations, and reporting.
- Up-to-date knowledge of current financial, accounting, risk, security, regulatory, and tax issues.
- Experience with accounting software.
- Strong business and financial acumen combined with the ability to operate tactically and to think strategically.
- Able to recommend, plan, lead, and manage change based on analytic, organization, and problem-solving skills required for sound decision making.
- Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities, proposing efficiencies, and guiding investments in people and systems.
- Personal qualities of entrepreneurship, honesty, integrity, credibility, professionalism, and dedication.
- Exceptional written and oral presentation skills with ability to effectively communicate with senior management, staff and clients. Able to translate financial and operations concepts for colleagues without finance and management backgrounds.
- Strong initiative combined with the ability to set priorities and organize projects. Must be a multitasker with the ability to meet deadlines and to wear many hats in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong people skills with experience collaborating in teams. Ability to influence, engage, mentor, coach, and motivate direct and indirect reports and peers with diverse levels of expertise and experience.
Additional Information
Base salary starting at $135,000 + $35,000 bonus potential annually.
