Position Description 

The Senior Director Business Development, reporting to the Managing Director Power Origination, is a high-profile position will drive the company’s growth as leader of the C&I team and focus on developing and executing the C&I strategy, with a focus on securing corporate offtake structures for the Origis pipeline. The position is responsible for building a strategic plan for the C&I U.S. market and executing on the plan by managing and growing key relationships with large, strategic C&I customers, consultants, and aggregators.

The Senior Director will work across all business units, including project development, power marketing, interconnection, finance, and M&A, to develop clean energy solutions that enable our strategic customers to meet their sustainability goals via PPAs or other types of corporate investments. Experience with growing strategic partnerships, virtual power purchase agreement negotiations, comfort, and experience with being the face of the company at customer meetings with an enthusiasm to build customer solutions, a strong knowledge of renewable project development, and customer relationship management is a must.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the C&I Business Development / Originations team, by defining and executing the C&I growth strategy, including prospecting, relationship building, and identifying clean energy solutions to meet customer sustainability goals.
  • Cultivate, build, and strengthen our relationships with C&I and strategic customers to create opportunities for offtake potential, financing, and/or project development.
  • Prepare RFP and bi-lateral proposals for both utility scale solar and energy storage projects.
  • Negotiate term sheets, MOUs, virtual power purchase agreements, BTA, and other commercial agreements with the necessary support and oversight of executive management.
  • Have a working knowledge of solar and energy storage project development, including land, permitting, and interconnection processes.
  • Understanding customers and Origis ESG goals and activities.
  • Follow project development activities and maturity for all projects proposed to C&Is customers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BS and/or BA, MBA preferred.
  • Background in leading teams during a company’s growth cycle.
  • Experience with C&I customers across the U.S. market.
  • Experience and deep understanding of the U.S. utility scale solar and energy storage markets.
  • Experience in customer presentations and negotiations.5-10+ years of increasingly progressive business development / origination experience.
  • Experience in negotiating Power Purchase Agreements (“PPAs”), and/or Virtual Power Purchase Agreements (“VPPAs”), and/or Build Transfer Agreements (“BTAs”.
  • Experience working for a solar or energy storage developer, working for an investor-owned utility, or working for a large C&I customer with experience working in energy procurement, business development, or originations.
  • Knowledge of US wholesale power markets (e.g. ERCOT, MISO, PJM, SPP, CAISO) and general understanding of competitive power market constructs.
  • Experience preparing market analyses and recommendations.
  • Experience with reviewing and providing inputs for solar as well as energy storage financial models.
  • Have exceptional communication skills.
  • Have exceptional organizational skills.
  • Experience with CRM platforms.
  • Understanding of power marketing and Hub settlement structures.
  • Understanding of the new IRA structure and how it applies to solar projects.
