Job Description 

Optimus seeks an organized, detail-oriented Control Systems Lead based in Pittsburgh, PA. Optimus is open to remote work for this role based on the specific applicant. This is a full time (40-50 hours per week) salaried position ($129,600-$144,000) with benefits. This position is ideal for candidates with extensive experience in heavy automotive engineering, control systems, and regulatory compliance. There is a travel requirement of approximately 10%-15% of work time to gain an intimate understanding of the practical application and long-term operation of the Vector System and other product offerings. As the control systems lead, there is an expectation of agility in identifying issues, finding the root cause, and efficiently moving toward an acceptable resolution. 
 
The position requires significant collaboration in defining conceptual designs, designing embedded systems and control algorithms, integrating verification and validation processes, developing controls strategies with other electrical & mechanical engineering team members, as well as working closely with our field operations and customer success teams.

Responsibilities 

  • Overseeing maintenance and troubleshooting across various embedded systems. 

  • Resolving complex issues by leveraging systems knowledge and experience. 

  • Utilize knowledge of systems and control to produce the necessary outcome for a client, assist in providing instructions that help the client better understand the nature and applications of the specific products and solutions. 

  • Using debugging and simulation tools to efficiently perform design iterations and optimization. 

  • Defining and implementing functional safety requirements. 

  • Continuous analysis of system performance to ensure proper functioning. 

  • Work with hiring management to build out a robust and highly functional team. 

  • Utilize and collaborate with team members and management to estimate development, resource allocation, and timing to achieve positive results. 

  • Maintain release control of new and existing logic.  

  • Ensure proper logic release to customers based on specific requirements and vehicle specific parameters. 

Qualifications & Experience 

  • Master’s degree in computer science, mechanical, or electrical engineering discipline 

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience designing embedded applications 

  • Experience in automotive controls/mechatronics required (heavy automotive preferred) 

  • Defining embedded system level requirements to meet product performance and reliability requirements. 

  • Extensive experience using MATLAB and SIMULINK software packages. 

  • 3+ years of working experience with multiple communication networks (CAN/LIN/J1939/J1708). 

  • Experience with CANalyzer and Vehicle Spy tool to read and decode CAN signals. 

  • Emissions compliance (CARB/EPA/International) experience preferred.
