WHAT YOU WILL DO

onX seeking a Senior Strategic Finance Analyst with an analytical and strategic mindset to partner with key stakeholders to help solve complex business matters. This role requires a close partnership with the company’s Content and Data teams, becoming a critical and valuable team member supporting the teams with operational and strategic issues, and developing an expertise in these various ecosystems. This position will report to the Sr. Director of Content. This analyst will have two primary areas of focus. 

  1. Work with the Content team to build processes and metrics designed to monitor and assess current Content trends and value. This ensures we are tracking toward various operational metrics and identifying when these trends start to accelerate, slow, or change direction.
  2. Work with the team to help set strategic direction through a longer-term focus, and ensure we have the right data, analysis, and strategic thinking to make these decisions and plot our longer-term course. In short, the ability to be a strategic and collaborative leader on the Content team focusing on the metrics and financial impacts of Content across onX.

These two focus areas include, but are not limited to, the following activities: identifying changes and trends in the business, industry, and ecosystem, helping plot out our responses, working to identify business issues and opportunities focused around Content; create insightful analyses and recommendations, and address other issues as they surface.  The Strategic Business Analyst will drive and assist with strategic direction, tactical issues, and decisions to keep the Content arm of onX on the right track in the short and long term. They will work closely with the Sr. Director of Content on creating documents such as Weekly Business Reviews (WBR), Operational Planning (OP1) and Long Range Planning (LRP). They are an integral part of the Content Leadership team providing a unique lens into Content.

As an onX Senior Strategic Finance Analyst, your essential job duties and responsibilities will look like: 

  • Become a trusted and sought-after member of the Content team by delivering insightful analyses and recommendations.
  • Work with stakeholders from other teams and/or functional groups to ensure all are aligned and pulling together in the same direction.
  • Demonstrate an entrepreneurial curiosity to search out creative ideas, solutions, and approaches to business problems.
  • As these businesses grow and evolve, help ensure we continue to have the right operational metrics and focus areas to sustain and accelerate that growth.
  • Assess data needs and work with our Business Intelligence, Content Analytics and Geospatial Data Science teams to ensure we have the right data in support of the above.
  • Assess new business opportunities and content extensions (new service offerings and/or new revenue opportunities, etc.), perform market analysis, and other strategic business needs. Work with the Content Team to define priorities for the business as we work through various stages of the planning process - working with the Content Leads in developing the 3-5 year plan and the Operational Plan for the next fiscal year, as well as updating forecasts, goals, and focus areas for the current year.
  • Help the Content Leadership team prepare for board meetings, business reviews, and planning.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

  • Education:  Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university is required.
  • Experience: Six (6) or more years of corporate/strategic finance or similar role, preferably at a high-growth consumer or SMB software, mobile application, or consumer internet company or consultancy.
  • Strong business acumen, strategic thinking, communication, and influence skills, as well as attention to detail, and tolerance with ambiguity as business needs change, often rapidly.
  • Experience and expertise with data & financial analysis and modeling/problem solving / trend analysis, and the ability to come up with creative approaches based on imperfect or incomplete information.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and data analysis proficiency with Microsoft Excel and data analysis required, including advanced functions (e.g., VLOOKUP, pivot tables), complex formulas, data organization, trend analysis, and translating insights into actionable business recommendations.
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis and critical thinking, including hypothesis testing, regression analysis, data interpretation, and drawing insightful conclusions.
  • Knowledge of SQL to accelerate data mining across multiple database platforms as well as extending the ability to Collaborate with Data teams.
  • Experience with structured root cause analysis. A good analyst will find the symptoms of a trend change and flag it. A great analyst will identify the root cause by seeing the signal through the noise.
  • Self-starter with the ability to find solutions for unstructured problems.
  • Collaborative, well organized, and efficient with a strong bias for action.
  • Strong verbal presentation and written communication skills.  
  • Must be available for travel to a corporate office in Montana bi-annually. 

ADDED BONUSES

  • Master of Business Administration degree
  • Understanding of the outdoor industry and passion for outdoor activities
  • Strong technical skills (R, Tableau, Excel, Python, etc)

WHERE YOU CAN WORK

onX has created a thriving distributed workforce community across several US locations. This position can be performed from an onX corporate office, “Basecamp,” or “Connection Hub.” Corporate Offices: onX was founded in Montana with offices in Missoula and Bozeman. If you prefer to work in an office at least part of the time this is a great option.

  • Basecamps: Basecamps are established virtual workforce communities where a sizable number of distributed team members group for work, volunteering, socializing, and adventure.  
    • Our current Basecamps are located within a 90-mile radius of the following: Austin, TX; Charlotte, NC; Denver, CO; Kalispell, MT; Minneapolis, MN; Portland, OR; Salt Lake City, UT; and Seattle, WA. 
  • Connection Hubs: Connection Hub locations are smaller, emerging communities of distributed team members. 
    • Our current Connection Hubs are located within a 60-mile radius of the following: Boise, ID; Charleston, SC; Dallas/Fort Worth, TX; Phoenix, AZ; Richmond, VA; Spokane, WA; and Vermont.

HOW YOU’LL BE COMPENSATED

onX is committed to compensating all employees fairly and equitably for their contributions. For this position, applicants can expect to make between $100,000 to $115,000 upon hire. The pay range will vary based on experience, skills, certifications, and education among other factors as required in the job description. In addition, full-time onX employees are eligible for a grant of common share options with a vesting schedule and a potential annual bonus of 10% based on company performance.
