WHAT YOU WILL DO

onX is seeking several 6-month fixed-term Geospatial Data Operations Specialists (full-time or part-time) who have a passion for geospatial data and technology that enhances our customers’ outdoor adventures. This entry-level position offers a fantastic opportunity to build your professional GIS skills and work alongside some of the top GIS professionals in the industry. As an onX Geospatial Data Operations Specialist, you will play a crucial role in performing quality control for the core data platform that powers the suite of onX mobile apps.

You will manually curate transportation data to resolve Quality Control exceptions arising from the automated processing of our roads and trails datasets. This is your chance to be part of a team that is dedicated to excellence and innovation in geospatial technology. This position reports to a manager within our Geospatial Data Operations team.

As an onX Geospatial Data Operations Specialist, your essential job duties and responsibilities will look like: 

  • Conducting quality control checks on spatial data within a map editing environment to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Communicating effectively with team leads to address and resolve any issues.
  • Critically analyzing existing processes and providing suggestions for improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Providing support for ad hoc data processing needs as they arise.
  • Collaborating with other members of the Data Operations team, including experienced geospatial professionals, to share duties and maintain high standards of data quality.

ASSIGNMENT DETAILS

  • Duration: 6 months from the start date.
  • Weekly Hours: We welcome candidates seeking either part-time (20 hours per week) or full-time (40 hours per week). Please specify your preference in your application. After an initial training period, we offer flexible working hours, including weekends, making this role ideal for students or individuals with varying schedules.
  • Completion Bonus: Upon successful completion of the assignment, you will be eligible for a completion bonus at the end of the contract.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

  • Education: Certificate, Associate's Degree, or Bachelor’s Degree in Geography, Geospatial Analysis, or a closely related field.
  • Experience:
    • At least 6 months of professional GIS experience, or
    • Completed relevant GIS coursework, or
    • Experience as a contributor to OSM open-source communities.
  • Technical Skills: Experience with desktop Geospatial software such as QGIS or ArcMap.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Ability to follow instructions as provided in process documentation.
    • Detail-oriented and highly organized self-starter.
    • Patience for repetitive tasks.
    • Ability to maintain a positive, helpful, and constructive attitude.
    • Ability to establish and maintain efficient working relationships with other onX employees.
    • Desire to contribute to a strong team dynamic.
    • A shared passion for and ability to demonstrate onX’s Company Values.
  • Permanent US work authorization is a condition of employment with onX. 

ADDED BONUSES

Though not required, we would be thrilled to consider candidates with any of the following:

  • Experience working with cadastral, trails/transportation, and/or points of interest (POI) data.
  • Experience with editing OSM data via the iD Editor.

WHERE YOU CAN WORK

onX has created a thriving distributed workforce community across several US locations. This position can be performed from an onX corporate office (preferred) or "Basecamp." 

  • Corporate Offices: onX was founded in Montana with offices in Missoula and Bozeman. If you prefer to work in an office at least part of the time, this is a great option.
  • Basecamps: onX’s Basecamps are established virtual workforce communities where a sizable number of distributed team members group for work, volunteering, socializing, and adventure. 
    • Our current Basecamps are located within a 90-mile radius of the following: Austin, TX; Denver, CO; Kalispell, MT; Minneapolis, MN; Portland, OR; Salt Lake City, UT; and Seattle, WA. 

HOW YOU’LL BE COMPENSATED

onX is committed to compensating all employees fairly and equitably for their contributions. For this position, applicants can expect to make between $25.75 to $28.50/hour upon hire. The pay range will vary based on experience, skills, certifications, and education among other factors as required in the job description.
