WHAT YOU WILL DO

onX is seeking a Senior Product Designer passionate about building products that enable life-changing experiences for onX Offroad adventurers who take the road less traveled to experience the incredible power of the outdoors. The Senior Product Designer is responsible for informing the strategic direction of onX Offroad user experience, leading UX discovery and delivery to ensure success in the market. The Senior Product Designer acts as the UX owner, partnering with a cross-functional team focused on Offroad and working directly with other product designers, product managers, engineering, QA, geospatial content, product marketing, brand, and customer service teams to ensure product success. The role requires a user-centered understanding of the user and business, considering a holistic user experience across various platforms, including web, iOS, Android, and device extensions such as Carplay, Android Auto, Apple Watch. The role requires collaboration with domain teams responsible for building core experiences that apply to all businesses (Hunt, Offroad and Backcountry) by defining and articulating the user problems, personas, and segments for the Offroad user and evangelizing those to customers across the organization.

The ideal candidate will be strongly user-focused, develop and maintain a deep understanding of user behavior, and focus on experimentation and using data to drive user experience decisions and prioritization.

This role will report to the Head of Product Design.

As an onX Senior Product Designer, your essential job duties and responsibilities will look like: 

  • Acting as the UX owner for onX Offroad and informing the strategic direction of onX Offroad user experience, leading UX discovery and delivery to ensure success in the market.
  • Collaborating with domain teams responsible for building core experiences that apply to all businesses (Hunt, Offroad, and Backcountry) by defining and articulating the user problems, personas, and segments for the Offroad user and evangelizing those to customers across the organization.
  • Leading or partnering on UX research that illuminates user needs, goals, and behaviors to inform the user experience for offroad users (usability tests, surveys, user interviews).
  • Advocating for quality user-centered decision-making, demonstrating an ability to weigh multiple competing priorities and technical constraints to find the best path forward.
  • Providing UX feedback to the team through mentoring and working closely with designers and other functional team members.
  • Creating all necessary deliverables (user flows, wireframes, mockups, prototypes, finished designs) to communicate product concepts, recommendations, and design rationale that drive internal alignment and establish a firm understanding of the best user experience for our users.
  • Staying sharp and sharing the changing UX industry, new tools, emerging technology, and UX patterns, including the latest on AI, accessibility, inclusive design, and UX recommendations from the HIG and Material Design.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

  • Bachelor’s degree in Product Design, Human Centered Design, User Experience Design, or equivalent experience. 
  • Eight (8) or more years of user experience design is required, with some of this for consumer-facing experiences.
  • Design experience across multiple platforms, including fully responsive web and native mobile (iOS and Android).
  • Experience or interest in the offroad and/or overland industry. 
  • In addition to your application, please submit a portfolio or case studies highlighting your design work. Applications must have a portfolio to be considered.

  • Permanent US work authorization is a condition of employment with onX. 
  • Ability to travel quarterly for multiple days to a corporate office or other onX strategic location, such as a Basecamp. 

ADDED BONUSES

Though not required, we would be thrilled to consider candidates with any of the following:

  • Experience with product discovery, storytelling, and UX strategy, taking products from 0 to 1.
  • Experience with mapping, navigation, geospatial applications, and outdoor recreation is a plus.
  • Experiencing operating in a startup culture–embracing rapid iteration, experimentation, and a growth mindset.
  • Self-starter with the ability to find solutions for unstructured problems.

WHERE YOU CAN WORK

onX has created a thriving distributed workforce community across several US locations. This position can be performed from an onX corporate office, “Basecamp,” or “Connection Hub”.

  • Corporate Offices: onX was founded in Montana with offices in Missoula and Bozeman. If you prefer to work in an office at least part of the time, this is a great option.
  • Basecamps: onX’s Basecamps are established virtual workforce communities where a sizable number of distributed team members group for work, volunteering, socializing, and adventure. 
    • Our current Basecamps are located within a 90-mile radius of the following: Austin, TX; Denver, CO; Kalispell, MT; Minneapolis, MN; Portland, OR; Salt Lake City, UT; and Seattle, WA. 
  • Connection Hubs: onX’s Connection Hub locations are smaller, emerging communities of distributed team members.
    • Our current Connection Hubs are located within a 60-mile radius of the following: Boise, ID; Charleston, SC; Charlotte, NC; Dallas/Fort Worth, TX; Phoenix, AZ; Richmond, VA; Spokane, WA; and Vermont.

HOW YOU’LL BE COMPENSATED

onX is committed to compensating all employees fairly and equitably for their contributions. For this position, applicants can expect to make between $125,000 to $165,000 upon hire. The pay range will vary based on experience, skills, certifications, and education among other factors as required in the job description. In addition, full-time onX employees are eligible for a grant of common share options with a vesting schedule and a potential annual bonus of 10% based on company performance.
