Organization Summary
One Earth Future is an international NGO whose mission is to provide growth capital and support services to small- and medium-sized enterprises in fragile and conflict-affected settings. We currently manage the Nordic Horn of Africa Opportunities Fund, a $28 million Sharia-compliant debt fund in Somalia, and are preparing to expand in the Horn of Africa and francophone west Africa. OEF believes that, with the right support, small and medium-sized enterprises can be a driving force for peace and prosperity in their countries. Shuraako is a program of OEF which focuses on promoting peace and stability in Somalia through focused economic development projects, fostering sustainable private sector growth and job creation.
Primary Role
The primary role of the Shuraako Field Intern is to support the Nordic Horn Africa Opportunities Fund staff through pre and post investment loan activities which will include repayment collection calls, document collection and project administration.
Job Type: Hourly, Full-Time. Typically, the Shuraako Field Intern will work 45 hours per week.
Compensation: This is a six (6) month paid internship.
Location: The position will be based in Hargeisa, Somaliland.
Reports to: Senior Field Manager and Supervised by Assistant Field Manager.
Primary Responsibilities
- Support the Nordic Fund team, across all work streams, to complete their mission
- Support Assistant Field Manager with administration tasks
- Assist in repayment collections by calling clients for loan payments
- Follow up repayment collection deadlines for clients
- Update repayment collection files
- Assist client document collection and submissions against supporting document checklist
- Support Assistant Field Manager in vendor receipt collection and vendor due diligence
- Assist potential clients by booking appointments to receive fund information from The Fund team
- Support team in incoming correspondence and inquiries
- Assist in maintaining Airtable database
- Support Field Assistant with client progress report collections
- Support Field Assistant with office maintenance coordination
- Support Senior Field Manager and Director as required
- Complete other tasks as requested by the team.
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills and Competences:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, international studies, or related discipline is strongly preferred
- Prior experience work in business environment, non-governmental and/or international organizations preferred but training will be provided
- Superb oral and written communication skills in Somali is required
- Strong oral and written skills in English is required
- Detail oriented and highly organized
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with teams of individuals at all levels both inside and outside the organization
- Ability to engage and correspond with important stakeholders from diverse cultures
- Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and tech savvy in general).
