Who you are:
Archipelago is seeking a Staff Backend Engineer to join our growing team. We are looking for an experienced backend developer comfortable delving into code as well as leading initiative projects from requirements to support in production. You should be comfortable pairing with product management, design, and communicating with customers. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a talented, passionate, and mission-driven group. We iterate quickly, ship every 2 weeks, build for the long term, and are looking for smart, independent engineers who want to ply their trade with like-minded people.
NOTE: Candidates to be located in San Francisco, CA or New York, NY metro areas only as we are looking to build co-located clusters of engineers that can meet in an office for collaboration and design.
Responsibilities:
- Design, build, deploy, and iterate on new features and capabilities of the Archipelago SaaS API platform stack.
- Collaborate with product management, customer success, and others to successfully lead and execute projects either individually or in collaboration with more junior engineers.
- Build fast but design for the future through architecting efficient and reusable components.
- Own the quality of your deliverable through good design, implementation and unit testing.
- Ship code to production frequently.
- Work independently as part of a distributed team.
- Great communication and collaboration skills.
- Be our go-to person for solving major technical / customer issues as they pertain to our technology stack
Qualifications:
- Bachelors in Computer Science or related field and 10+ years directly related experience required
- 2+ years of experience working with Golang and background with other back end languages and tools
- Strong knowledge of RESTful APIs and well developed practices around, versioning, error handling on remote interfaces
- Experience with integrating 3rd party APIs
- Experience working in cloud based environments, e.g. AWS, GCP, Azure.
- Building data driven services on top of databases such as Postgres, MySQL, MariaDB, etc.
Bonus Points:
- Experience building applications for the insurance industry.
- Containerization experience targeting Docker and Kubernetes.

Salary Range in CA/NY: $160,000 - $200,000
