Who you are:

Archipelago is seeking a Structural Engineer to join our growing team. As a member of the interdisciplinary risk engineering team, you will work closely with a group of seasoned engineers, architects, risk and analytic experts and computer scientists. You will be entrusted with reviewing engineering documents for platform enrichment, assisting in developing a resilience strategy, and future domestic and international engineering site visits.  You will assist the overall Archipelago team to make sure our clients extract maximum value from their investment in Archipelago, over the course of many years, supporting clients’ insurance program renewals and updates on the platform.

Your duties will include structural plan review, engineering document review, structural risk assessment, and/or resilience studies. You will gain experience with commercial insurance companies is considered a plus.  In this role, you will not be expected to provide typical engineering design services, however, the knowledge gained in this position will be immense.

As this may be a work from home position with a flexible schedule, you will need to be an independent self-starter capable of working without constant oversight. You must be passionate about proactively providing outstanding customer service for all technical activities. You will need to be flexible and able to shift priorities in the “start-up” culture while maintaining a positive, can-do attitude. You will have to wear multiple hats and can thrive in a fast-paced start-up environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the team in identifying building metrics from the property documents/structural drawings/Risk Engineering reports that can be incorporated into future AI.
  • Work with the team in developing future resilience-based programs and plans.  
  • Work with other Archipelago teams internally, to improve the quality of the product.
  • Knowledgeable on the trends and best practices in the structural engineering community. 
  • Think strategically, act tactically, delegate appropriately, work well with others, and promote a safe and collaborative work environment.

Qualifications: 

  • Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university and 0-2 years of experience in structural engineering 
  • A solid technical education, professional demeanour, and desire to learn are essential.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Strong knowledge of structural design and knowledge of general building systems.
  • General understanding the International Code Council Building Codes, ASCE7, and associated standards.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office applications would be plus.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments and work alone or within a team environment.

  • Drive brokers' success with connected workflows
    • Production: Processing of properties (jobs) with one to two properties per day (initial one month) to ~150 - 200 properties per quarter.
  • Maintain Health Matrix
    •  Quality: Job comments ratio (quality criteria) less than 10 (for first one month) with 50% reductions in the following months/quarters
    • Support in the Automation processing, STP, Copilot and any futuristic applications.
