THE ROLE

As a Senior Packaging Engineer, you will serve as part of a project team to manage packaging development for innovation, renovation and supply chain initiatives.  The focus of this role is to establish a comprehensive packaging framework and implement associated processes to drive project success. They will support our supply chain team through their innovative thinking skills, while providing technical and cost-effective solutions for our products. This role will lead packaging development across a wide range of materials and structures (cans, cartons, trays, etc.), and will act as a technical resource to drive successful commercialization of the innovation pipeline, while gaining cross functional alignment on key initiatives. This role is suited for an individual with an emphasis on innovation, collaboration and creative problem solving.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Senior Packaging Engineer will lead the scoping, planning and qualification of new primary, secondary and tertiary packaging structures.
  • Work closely with Quality, R&D, Finance, Sales and Marketing to develop innovative packaging solutions and manufacturing strategies aimed at driving business growth.
  • Assess current packaging processes and identify improvement opportunities that help drive project success. 
  • Develop protocols and support product line trials to validate new packaging materials and structures.
  • Manage distribution and packaging integrity testing with external labs. Responsible for analyzing and communicating results to senior leaders.
  • Partner with external suppliers and plants to develop packaging dielines based on manufacturing capabilities.
  • Collaborate with the design team to offer direction on artwork, considering supplier capabilities and manufacturing limitations.
  • Work closely with the Quality team to address packaging-related quality issues. 
  • Oversee a packaging specification database; Responsible for creating technical specifications for all materials.
  • Responsible for initiating and commercializing packaging cost-savings solutions.
  • Provide Subject Matter Expertise for Package Development and Commercialization.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS in Packaging with 5 - 7 years experience within the beverage industry.
  • Experience with can manufacturing and the development of secondary and tertiary packaging.
  • Must have strong project management skills in developing packaging qualification timelines.
  • Ability to collaborate and build relationships with internal & external teams.
  • Passion for process development and continuous improvement.
  • Attention to detail with good follow through to ensure job completion and accuracy.
  • Experience following a technical stage gate process.
  • Strong technical and analytical skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple high priority objectives.

COMPENSATION:

$110,000-$120,000 base salary + bonus
