Position Title: Commercial Potato Agronomist

Location: Remote in US (25% travel required)

Type: Full-time

Below is the pay range for this position that we reasonably expect to pay. Individual compensation is based on various factors including experience, education, skillset, and other relevant qualifications. 

Anticipated Hiring Range: $100,000 - $145,000

 

The Opportunity:

Ohalo Genetics is an innovative agricultural products company that develops breakthrough technologies to help farmers and consumers. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Agronomy Lead with expertise in potatoes to join our team. As Agronomy Lead at Ohalo, you will develop and lead our pre-commercial field testing efforts, including designing and executing our field testing program globally, in close partnership with our R&D and product teams. You will analyze data and deliver insights to enable the successful launch of our breakthrough products in potatoes, providing recommendations on variety selection and developing an agronomic system to accompany commercial launch.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Design and Execute Field Trials:
    • Develop and implement field trials globally for pre-commercial products, showcasing new breeding breakthroughs in potatoes.
    • Address key questions to facilitate the successful commercial launch of innovative potato varieties.
  • Develop Innovative Agronomic Systems:
    • Play a key role in designing new agronomic systems that accompany the launch of new potato products.
    • Contribute creative solutions to enhance product performance and customer satisfaction.
  • Analyze Data and Deliver Recommendations:
    • Work closely with our software engineering lead to develop a streamlined system for collecting, analyzing, and sharing field plot data.
    • Analyze testing outputs from field trials and provide actionable recommendations to the Research & Development and Product teams.
    • Contribute insights on product strengths and areas for improvement to drive decision-making.
  • Collaborate with Growers:
    • Identify and collaborate with contract growers in the U.S. as needed to structure, execute, and collect essential data from field trials.
    • Foster effective relationships with growers to ensure successful trial outcomes.
  • Collaborate with International Partners:
    • Collaborate with consultants in other countries to design, execute, and collect data from ex-U.S. field trials.
    • Contribute to the development of comprehensive, global go-to-market commercial plans.
  • Effectively Manage Budget:
    • Take accountability for developing and adhering to the field trial budget.
    • Optimize resource allocation to ensure efficient and cost-effective trial execution.
  • Represent Ohalo Externally:
    • Effectively communicate the value proposition of our pre-commercial products.
    • Represent Ohalo Genetics in customer meetings, trade shows, and potential partner conversations as required.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required in Agronomy, Plant Science, or related field with a minimum of 7 years experience OR Master’s degree in Agronomy, Plant Science, or related field with a minimum of 5 years experience.
  • Proven experience in designing and executing potato field trials, including expertise in conducting crop research and evaluations including experimental design, data analysis and interpretation, and information systems familiarity.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to derive actionable insights from trial data.
  • Strong agronomic knowledge of modern agricultural production methods and crop inputs.
  • Ability to work well with both R&D and commercial team members
  • Excellent project management and budgeting skills.
  • Effective communication and presentation abilities.
  • International collaboration experience is a plus.
