The Role:

The role of Account Director provides leadership on their accounts, inspiring the highest standards in all team members whilst directing our longer-term relationship with the Client. You are responsible for developing strong and enduring Client relationships by acting as a partner in developing marketing strategy and adding value to the business.

The role is for an Social and Digital Account Director to work specifically as part of the Global Unilever ULab team. ULab sits at the intersection between our Unilever brands (Dove & Hellmanns and Customer Experience. Formed in 2020, ULab is a virtual unit within Ogilvy that has brought together the best talent from across our Global Network. Organised and dedicated to Unilever, we are a team of social first thinkers and digital natives with years of experience developing, prototyping and testing innovative solutions to consumer and business problems. YoY our remit grows. 

We create work that is engaging, impactful, efficient and commerce driving, personalised to individual audiences. 

Working in collaboration with our brand teams, we continually demonstrate the power of connected, interwoven end to end delivery across our Unilever Brands for multimarket global campaigns. 

This is an exciting time to join our team, as the remit and demand for our digital first creative and strategic thinking grows, the team needs to grow to drive greater revenue and business growth. In tandem with clients, 1UL is transforming itself to deliver Social First campaigns – strategically, creatively and from a production point of view. With this, we will be working in great collaboration of our network partners Social Labs in Brussels, and C2 in South Africa. 2024 will see the team moving into the realms of undertaking our own, agile social first shoots as will being more integral to the larger production shoot.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Have a digital and social first mindset, being familiar with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in digital marketing and commerce. Understand social platforms, how to deliver platform native social and digitals content. 
  • Understands all aspects of our core Unilever brands (Dove, Hellmanns) and dynamics operating in the global market and consumer relationships with the brand 
  • Has a deep understanding of the client’s business, and the broader trends shaping their markets and categories, continually enhancing knowledge of the client’s brand. 
  • Understands challenges facing Client’s business in the short to mid-term and knows all aspects of competitive activity. 
  • Responsible for smooth running of the account, operationally, creatively and financially. 
  • Builds strong and enduring relationships with clients giving them confidence to explore ideas 
  • Regularly seeks out ways to add value to the client/agency relationship 
  • In partnership with the ULab Strategic Lead, applies innovative thinking to the development of insightful communication strategies and a longer-term brand vision 
  • Be a sound judge of creative work, able to coherently argue the case for or against creative based on the brief and factual accuracy, both internally and with the Client. Understand what is native social and digital content and what will work in this environment. 
  • Be the client’s key point of contact on strategic, creative and resource issues. 
  • Ensures that there are sufficient and appropriate resource to complete tasks and oversees and provide support to the Account Executive so that all projects are completed to the highest standards, on brief, on budget and on time. 
  • Coach and motivate the team to deliver their best work 
  • Works with ULab Lead to position team as WPP lead and most effective agency in delivering platform native, social content and Modular Digital Campaigns at scale

 

Requirements:

  • Account handling experience working in a complex matrix environment 
  • Experience at working and managing global clients. 
  • Experience of delivery of Global Digital Campaigns 
  • Experience in working with cross discipline internal and external agency teams (TVC, Media, Influencer and Intelligence) 
  • Ability and aptitude in understanding and delivering both Modula Digital Campaigns, and platform native social first content 
  • Experience of preparing and delivering presentations / proposals of a strategic nature. 
  • Experience in being flexible, adaptable, and capable in working on multiple deliverables, meeting deadlines in a fast paced environment. 
  • Will need to have strong strategic thinking, possessing energy and creativity. Applying fresh thinking and new approaches to meet Client's expectations. 
  • Will need to develop and demonstrate leadership qualities and an evident mastery of the full raft of account management skills. 
  • Strong project management skills. With a strong strategic ability for scoping and planning projects. 
  • Experience of building excellent relationships with clients 
  • Clear evidence of business development skills and negotiation skills. 
  • Good financial management, improving profitability
