Engineering Technician

As an Engineering Technician you will undertake the day to day reactive and planned engineering activities and improvement works within the ZOOM site/network.

Engineering Technicians play an important part in supporting the Operation in our state of the art, automated Customer Fulfilment Centres, providing 1st line response to Engineering fault conditions, reactive and planned maintenance activities as well as proactive improvement works.

Responsibilities: 

  • Reporting and monitoring of data capture for automation and maintenance activities
  • Be required to keep accurate records such as work activities, tasks carried out, parts used through stores, etc.
  • Reacting to MHE breakdowns (both mechanical and electrical), locating the fault, analysing the issue and completing the fix in a timely manner to keep operation downtime to a minimum.
  • Work closely with other departments to find ways to increase machine reliability on existing and new equipment, diagnose equipment breakdowns and action repairs to support the operation.
  • Attend meetings as required, analyse data and find solutions to improve equipment performance.
  • Carrying out planned maintenance across the site in an accurate, timely and safe manner ensuring maintenance procedures are followed
  • Update records of work activities, tasks carried out, parts used through stores and training given
  • Work closely with manufacturers, suppliers and internal departments in finding ways to improve process and increase machine reliability and performance
  • Respond to and diagnose equipment breakdowns, resolving issues and action repairs
  • Perform daily housekeeping, KPIs and cleaning duties of equipment
  • Analyse data to find solutions to improve MHE performance, providing reports where necessary
  • Complete quality inspections to ensure work is completed to a safe standard
  • Management of stock levels in the main and satellite stores using the CMMS (computerised maintenance management system)
  • Monitoring of stock levels, taking corrective actions where appropriate
  • Goods receiving, inspection, storage and picking of spare parts
  • Provide assistance, in the identification of parts, to the Central Engineering Stores Team
  • Work to and follow all ​Health and Safety​ guidance, both external (CDM Regulations 2015 and associated ACOPs) and internal (CDM15, HS&E policy and associated Arrangement Policies). To seek guidance from the HS&E team where there is uncertainty.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience: 

  • Some technical ability and understanding relating to automation hardware and software would be preferred, but training can be given
  • A formal engineering related qualification would be advantageous
  • Knowledge of control systems would also be advantageous
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, able to impart knowledge effectively to others
  • Good organisational ability and the ability to plan and prioritise.
  • Sound analytical skills with an eye for detail; good problem solving ability and a practical approach.
  • Experience of working with Computerised maintenance management systems
  • Numerate and PC literate including Word, Excel etc.

You will be required to complete your training in your first 4-6 weeks in the role. This training will be held at our sites in either Purfleet and/or Erith to be completed Monday-Friday.
