“Ocado Technology, powering the future of retail through sustained disruptive technology innovation...”

Ocado Technology is putting the world’s retailers online using the cloud, robotics, AI, and IoT. We develop the innovative software and hardware systems that power Ocado.com, the world’s largest online-only grocery retailer as well as the global ‘Ocado Smart Platform’. With everything from websites to fully autonomous warehouses that we design in-house, our employees need to be specialists in a wide range of technologies to help drive our business.

We champion a value-led culture to get our teams working at their very best and to help create a collaborative working environment that our people love. Core values of Trust, Autonomy, Craftsmanship, Collaboration and Learn Fast help drive our innovative culture.  But don’t just take our word for it, have a look at what our people are saying about us on Glassdoor.

The team…

The Production Control Systems teams are responsible for building automation software that powers our next-generation robotic picking and storage solution. It is a core component of our Customer Fulfilment Centres (CFCs) which are offered as part of the Ocado Smart Platform (OSP). OSP is being marketed to retailers globally as a world-class platform for grocery eCommerce.

What you will be doing…

As a Product Manager, you will work directly with two of our development teams to envision the future of our DASH Control Software. This is the ‘air traffic control’ system which tells our bots where to go and when, interfacing with other systems to carry out operational tasks. It is critically important to the running of the Hive and the whole OSP solution.

You will work side-by-side with Engineering team leads, being jointly accountable for the delivery of your products. You will be required to build up and maintain a healthy level of trust and collaboration with your engineering counterpart, respecting the boundaries of your individual roles and responsibilities.

Our environment is one of cutting edge product development with a focused approach to constant delivery of high value solutions. As a product manager, you will be at the core of the development methodology. This includes defining and managing the product strategy, backlog, benefit analysis, minimum viable product, prioritisation, acceptance criteria and reviewing completed work. Having a learning mindset and being able to understand user requirements, or perform trials and experiments to further understand user behaviour is also an expected part of the product manager role.

We’d love to hear from you if you have…

  • Experience of working as a Product Manager in an agile environment, defining product roadmaps, building products collaboratively with design and engineering peers, and shipping at scale
  • Ability to lead product discovery of complex problems involving multiple product areas and interdependencies
  • Ability to estimate the value of software features, performing cost-benefit analysis and constructing business cases
  • Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong technical skills and an analytical mind set, with an understanding of software development and design
  • Domain experience with automation software systems (not essential)
