About our team 

Our Retrieval Robotics teams are at the cutting-edge of our technology engineering business. From the design and manufacture of the most state-of-the-art products in the business, to their delivery into our multi-million pound Customer Fulfillment Centres (CFCs) across the globe, our bespoke electrical and mechanical development projects are pushing the boundaries of innovation and automation.
 
Within Retrieval Robotics sits the Bot Hardware Development function, which is responsible for the design, testing and manufacture of our automated products relating to our Bots. Our Design team is looking for an accomplished Technical Lead, who will be responsible for the analysis of dynamic situations by using hand or spreadsheet calculations, numerical simulations and digital modelling (by mathematical and/or finite element methods). The work is to support new development projects and design changes to existing products as well as prototype testing.

How you’ll spend your days...

  • You will tackle the most advanced problems requiring analysis and simulation, collaborating with others inside the business, industry and academia to reach validated conclusions
  • Uses your own experience to prepare simple and complex finite element models, including material selection, interface and boundary conditions with the appropriate solver choice
  • Use analytical tools and standards to substantiate analysis decisions
  • Provides technical and theoretical support for the validation and/or functional tests required
  • Improve your own knowledge through training and knowledge sharing
  • Prepare and present examples of working methods to the wider team
  • Fosters and maintain a healthy partnership with members of the team as well as with other teams in the wider business
  • Prepare accurate reports of analyses, including whenever possible, legacy studies and trustable references to substantiate the results
  • Ensure the quality requirements for the tools you use and the storage of data, analyses and results

We’re keen to talk to people with...

  • Expert experience in solving technical problems through the use of calculations, modelling and FEA simulations in both Static and Dynamic Mechanical situations
  • A solid understanding of the principles of simulation, the risks involved and how to mitigate them
  • A sound technical background in designing components taking into account their requirements, particularly production methods and economics
  • Basic experience of work planning, generating realistic schedules and tracking progress against them
  • Understands technical drawings to BS8888 and the interpretation of GD&T
  • A proven track record in the validation and verification of analysis results
  • Understanding of how to deal with stochastic properties of systems
  • Experience in 3D CAD
  • A degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or a related Engineering subject is preferred

  • Intermediate user of ANSYS software, ideally including LS-DYNA
  • Intermediate user of Solidworks
  • Comfortable presenting ideas, convincing others and making presentations to a group audience
  • Understanding of control systems, electronics and electrical hardware
  • Chartered Engineer
