We are Ocado Technology. We are building the software which powers our next generation robotic picking and storage solution. This solution is a core component of our Customer Fulfilment Centres (CFCs) which are offered as part of the Ocado Smart Platform (OSP). OSP is being marketed to retailers globally as a world-class platform for grocery eCommerce.

We are now looking for Product Manager to work directly with development teams to help shape and direct the development of our software.

The product manager for Vision Systems will help establish a new team which is focussing on the range of camera and video systems we use in our warehouses to monitor various processes and to support our engineers in their day to day operations. In the development of this new and exciting product the PM will be working closely with Machine Learning and software development engineers to build a new system that will help our warehouse to be even more autonomous and productive.

Role responsibilities:

Leading & Influencing

  • Partner with Engineering Team Leads to create a strong sense of purpose and mission for the development team(s)
  • Act as the go-to person for your product area
  • Evangelise customer needs in a compelling way to department and engineering teams
  • Make effective decisions with a clear rationale, using appropriate tools for the scenario 
  • Champion the product vision & ensure the plan is in line with vision and goals and continues to be fit for purpose throughout roadmap delivery

Product Knowledge

  • Ensure that the product roadmap is aligned with the platform goals and is validated with stakeholders
  • Engage stakeholders effectively to gather user feedback to continuously refine the product roadmap
  • Understand and measure the key business drivers for your product domain and assess how new capabilities impact upon them
  • Develop a deep understanding of the business processes within our CFCs and understand where your products fit in
  • Build relationships with stakeholders and collaborate to define scope and prioritise stories to maximise business value
  • Develop a deep understanding of the systems that your product comprises to enable you to act as a proxy for the team

Planning, Delivery & Validation

  • Ensure that the product roadmap is aligned with the platform goals and is validated with stakeholders
  • Engage stakeholders effectively to gather user feedback to continuously refine the product roadmap
  • Share accountability with the Engineering Team Lead to drive the team towards realising defined goals
  • Apply fit-for-purpose agile processes, escalating and removing obstacles in workflow wherever required
  • Manage the product backlog, including defining user stories and acceptance criteria
  • Define scope & prioritise stories to maximise business value

Knowledge and skills required for the role:

Essential

  • Experience of working as a Product Manager in an agile environment аnd software development company
  • Ability to plan, manage, track and deliver on commitments
  • Ability to work effectively in a team or autonomously as appropriate
  • Defining product roadmaps, building collaboratively with design and engineering peers, and shipping at scale
  • Experience of collaborating with multiple functional areas, including product management, engineering, UX/UI
  • Ability to estimate the value of software features, performing cost-benefit analysis and constructing business cases
  • Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong technical skills and an analytical mind set
  • An understanding and appreciation for software development and design

Desirable

  • Domain experience with automation or embedded systems
