Ocado's Legal Services function is on a journey of continued growth and drive for efficiency and to meet this need we are always on the look out for talented colleagues. 
The IP team  within the Legal Dept is continually growing and whilst we have thus far successfully recruited for specific roles, we are always on the look out for talented, part or fully qualified Patent Attorneys, who would welcome a challenge within a commercially focused, interesting and unique environment.
Potential candidates would work within the Legal Dept and report to the Head of IP, and would be required to identify technology within Ocado’s Engineering and Technology functions requiring protection and prepare and prosecute suitable patent applications in multiple jurisdictions, using overseas associates as necessary.  
There is significant direct contact with inventors and managers within multiple streams of the business.  Additionally, the team liaise directly with data scientists and engineers and other team members to improve the understanding within the business of IP and to assist the Head of IP in the implementation of IP relevant policies across the group.  All roles within the IP Team require familiarity with all aspects of IP in an exciting and fast-paced innovative environment, and all team members are expected to work autonomously across all aspects of the business.

About you.....

  • Degree/PhD in Physics, Computing or Engineering
  • Finals standard or npart qualified (EP or UK)
  • Drafting experience essential
  • Experience in drafting CII, eCommerce, business methods, computing preferred
  • Preferably having direct client contact experience
  • Able to act autonomously with inventors
  • Some commercial IP experience an advantage
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritise workload 
  • Personable, with ability to work well within a team environment
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
