The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) manages the efficient flow of electricity on more than 11,000 circuit-miles of high-voltage transmission lines, dispatching power from hundreds of generating units across the state.
The Immigration Specialist is responsible for supporting NYISO International Employees in pursuit of work authorization and permanent residency. The specialist will be required to handle visa requests, consulting with candidates and future employees on visa and immigration processing steps and ensures compliance with HR policies. The specialist will partner with external counsel to ensure compliance with federal regulations and represents HR on immigration related strategies. The specialist will Interpret and/or provide education on HR immigration policies, procedures, and programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide a high-quality experience for Employees during the full immigration process.
- Responsible for day-to-day communications among candidates, employees, managers, internal stakeholders, external counsel, and/or vendors, for the Immigration programs.
- Track all visa details and expiration dates suggesting filing approaches.
- Initiate Visas for new hires/amendments with outside immigration counsel
- Coordinate the internal process for permanent residency requirements and ensure immigration compliance requirements are followed and documented.
- Post and remove required DOL, advertising and PERM postings.
- Prepare employment letters and US invitation letters for NYISO Employees
- Provide employees with list of required documents/information for visa appointments and international travel.
- Maintain awareness of legislation that impacts the immigration process.
- Collaborate in the design, development, communication, and training of the visa program.
- Collaborate on special projects such as Permanent Residency reviews, benchmarks, etc.
- Ensure immigration data is accurately maintained and advising on immigration compliance and audits.
- Process EVerify for all NYISO new hire employees
- Partner with Recruiting, HR, and Managers to ensure that all NYISO job descriptions are up to date and accurate.
- May assist in other HR projects, if needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business, Law or another related area of study
- Four years of experience relating to employment-based employer-provided immigration

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Contact with staff and public will occur. Travel may be required to attend and/or conduct meetings, conferences and training. This position may require work on nights, weekends or holidays.
