NISC’s Platform & Infrastructure division is currently seeking top talent to help support and administer their network infrastructure.  As a member of the Cloud Networking team, you will be a part of a high performing team focused on high availability, design, and ongoing operations for the services we provide to our members.  We seek individuals with a passion to learn new technologies while delivering excellent customer service to our members.  

Work Schedule:  

  • Hybrid from one of our office locations: 
    • Cedar Rapids, IA
    • Lake Saint Louis, MO
    • Mandan, ND 
  • Hybrid Schedule: Minimum of working 3 day per week out of an office location and ability to work up to all 5 days a week from an office location.
  • Required Days from an Office Location: Tuesday and Wednesday - the third required day will be up to the candidate and their supervisor to choose.
  • Virtual Office Location: Fully remote candidates will be considered for candidates who have previously worked at NISC or one of it's Member's in the utility or telecommunication industries. 

Essential Duties:  

  • Create meaningful KPI dashboards for reporting on networking and application response time Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Lead the design and development of low latency networking infrastructure to support distributed systems architecture.
  • Lead and execute the design/build of hybrid cloud network topology leveraging industry best practices.
  • Lead the design/build of containerized network topologies.
  • Manage multiple high-level vendor relationships while prioritizing and relaying requirements to the team surrounding internet connectivity direction.
  • Advise on vulnerability best practices and see through to resolution.
  • Design and automate network component patching that adheres to the Vulnerability Management Policy.
  • Develop maintenance plans, define organizational impacts, and establish best practices while coordinating effectively with other teams.
  • Maintain and contribute to our knowledge base, documentation, and SOPs.
  • Perform compliance audits.
  • Develop, oversee and manage a cost control budget with measures related to leveraging public cloud resources.
  • Participate in on-call support rotation on evenings and weekends. Perform occasional after-hours maintenance tasks.
  • May be requested to mentor other team members.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Preferred: 

  • 8+ years of related experience preferred.
  • Mastery level Knowledge of Networking Services/Protocols: TCP/IP, UDP, DNS, ARP, NTP, SMTP, OSPF, BGP, VRRP, IPSEC tunnels, SNMP.
  • Experience with the following vendors is a plus: Palo Alto Networks, SonicWALL, Extreme Networks, Arista Networks, Trustgrid. 
  • Working level knowledge of Linux operating systems.
  • Advanced level knowledge of scalable networking design including high availability, redundancy, failover and load balancing at the inter and intra datacenter level.
  • Advanced level Knowledge of containers, Docker, and Kubernetes network architecture.
  • Advanced level understanding of hybrid cloud and public cloud network topologies as well as AWS.
  • Advanced level Knowledge of firewall policy configuration and VPN termination.
  • Advanced level knowledge of how hosted applications use industry security and DDOS protections.
  • Advanced level knowledge of project management processes and theory.  
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent telephone/email/chat etiquette and an ability to deal effectively with internal or external customers.
  • Excellent ability to demonstrate initiative and accountability.
  • Excellent research and problem-solving skills.
  • Possess an excellent attention to detail.

Education Preferred: 

Bachelor’s Degree in Cybersecurity, Networking, Computer Information Systems, a business-related field or equivalent experience.  

Other Qualifications/Certifications Preferred: 

  • Certification in Amazon Web Services (AWS) or other public cloud technology.
  • Industry recognized certifications are a plus.
