Job Summary

Reporting to the Vice President of Construction, the Construction Project Manager will be responsible for overseeing project delivery, construction, and implementation of our Battery Energy Storage Systems and Distributed Energy Resource projects in predominantly the metro New York City. The Construction Project Manager will work closely with cross-functional teams, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure the successful completion of projects on time and within budget. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction and project  management, a proven track record of successfully delivering complex projects, and a passion for renewable energy initiatives.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Direct, manage, and monitor the progress of contractors working on capital construction projects e.g., Battery Energy Storage Systems, Distributed Energy Resources.
  • Address and efficiently resolve issues that arise during construction.
  • Serve as the overall Project Coordinator and Company representative to utilities as required for the interconnection of Company assets.
  • Negotiate with contractors, consulting engineers, architects, governmental authorities, and utilities as required.
  • Conduct field inspections to ensure that all company assets are constructed in accordance with all applicable engineering designs, specifications, procedures, safety protocols and/or codes.
  • Prepare, review, approve division of responsibility and work sequence as required between contractors, vendors, utilities, and Company.
  • Coordinate with the engineering team to ensure alignment with project requirements.
  • Ensure that the contractor's means and methods conform to their HASP and local, state, and federal regulations. Assure all contractor work is conducted within stipulations required by applicable NYC permits, guidelines, and minimize quality of life issues for the community we serve.
  • Identify potential risks to project construction timelines and budgets and implement appropriate risk management strategies.
  • Ensure all project schedules are maintained (including utility system upgrades), and coordinate with engineering, finance, and procurement to resolve technical, field or contract issues.
  • Review and provide feedback and recommendations on designs and drawings, equipment layout, feasibility of potential sites, etc.
  • Monitor and control project scope and work in conjunction with the Engineering and Leadership teams to authorize necessary construction related design changes.  
  • Ensure all change orders and invoices are reviewed for accuracy and approved in a timely manner.
  • Monitor, track, and report all project related costs to internal teams
  • Maintain all project files including daily / weekly logs on contractor activities, updated schedules, and contract drawings, submittals/RFI's and sign in sheets.
  • Establish and maintain professional, effective, timely, and consistent communication as required with company and external agency personnel.
  • Communicate construction project status effectively to internal and external stakeholders as needed.
  • Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.

Required education and experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field with 5 years of project or construction management experience. or
  • Associates Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field with 7 years of project or construction management experience. or
  • High School Diploma/GED and 10 years of project or construction management experience.

Relevant Work Experience

  • Proven experience in construction and/or project management with strong knowledge in electrical, power systems,  mechanical, civil, construction or operations.
  • Excellent project management skills, including scheduling, budgeting, and risk management.
  • Can interpret construction prints, plans, plates, diagrams.
  • Familiarity with relevant local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Knowledge of Building Code, permitting and filing requirements, and all requirements of the Authorities Having Jurisdiction e.g., DOB, FDNY, Con Edison, NEC, NESC, NFPA, etc. 
  • Work in the field and active construction sites, climbing multiple flights of stairs.
  • Familiar with developing, setting and tracking internal and external milestones and project risks.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects at one time, and prioritize workload.
  • Knowledge of contract administration procedures, inspection and cost control.
  • Ability to interface with external agencies and internal teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office products (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Project, etc.); knowledge of Auto-CAD is preferred.
