The opportunity

As a Senior Technical Writer at ngrok, you will play a critical role in helping developers and users understand and leverage our powerful platform. You will work closely with product managers, engineers, and other cross-functional teams to produce high-quality documentation, tutorials, API references, and user guides. Your work will ensure that our customers can easily integrate and use ngrok's features across various environments.

Responsibilities

  • Create, update, and maintain clear, concise, and accurate technical documentation, including product manuals, API references, user guides, and tutorials.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, and customer support teams to gather technical information and transform it into accessible, well-structured documentation.
  • Write and edit internal and external documentation, ensuring consistency in tone and style across all materials.
  • Develop guides and how-to content that enables users to get the most out of ngrok’s tools.
  • Review and refine existing documentation based on user feedback and changes to product features.
  • Contribute to the development of a documentation style guide to ensure clarity and consistency across all documentation.
  • Stay up to date with the latest product releases and industry trends to create relevant, timely content.

Skills

  • 5+ years of experience as a Technical Writer, within the developer tooling, SaaS, or infrastructure space.
  • Strong ability to write for technical audiences such as developers, engineers, and IT professionals.
  • Experience with documentation tools such as Docusaurus, Markdown, Github, AsciiDoc, or similar.
  • Ability to understand complex technical topics and translate them into easy-to-understand documentation.
  • Software engineering background with a focus around Typescript, React, Node.js, HTML and CSS.
  • Prior experience at a startup.
  • We’d love to see a mix of experience with the following technology areas: API Gateways, Application Gateways, Software Networking, HTTP, DNS, BGP, VPC, VPN, Kubernetes, Load Balancers, Wireshark, DDoS, CDN, WAF, Firewall and WireGuard.
  • Bonus points:
    • Experience with video content creation or editing, particularly for creating video tutorials or how-to guides.

Minimum salary of $150,000 to maximum of $185,000

Job level and actual compensation will be decided based on factors including, but not limited to, individual qualifications objectively assessed during the interview process (including skills and prior relevant experience, potential impact, and scope of role), internal equity with other team members, market data, and specific work location.

Compensation for this role depends on level, but we provide a competitive mix of salary and equity.

We provide a 401(k) with a 100% match up to 3% of your salary and a 50% match up to another 2%.

We provide healthcare, dental, and vision with premiums fully covered on the base plan for employees. Half of premiums are covered for dependents.

We offer unlimited PTO and a culture in which the overwhelming majority of employees take more than four weeks. Your manager is also on the hook for encouraging you to do the same.
