National Access Cannabis (NAC) is a unique health care service provider that specializes in prescribing medical cannabis and provides members with ongoing education and care. We work alongside Health Canada and licensed producers to help qualifying patients gain access to their license, as well as provide resources and support on using medical cannabis in their day-to-day routine. NAC has developed a strong history of effectively delivering secure, safe, and responsible access to legal cannabis for thousands of Canadian patients and our business model will be effectively replicated for the recreational cannabis retail space with a new brand, Meta Cannabis Supply Co (META™).

Position Overview

 

The Store Design Specialist plays a key role in bringing National Access Cannabis’ recreational cannabis strategy to life across Canada.

In partnership with senior management, the Store Design Specialist will be responsible for assisting with the retail store designs (from early schematic design, through to execution), while working alongside construction, real estate, architectural and marketing teams.

Duties and responsibilities 

Primary responsibilities of the Store Design Specialist, include, but not limited to, are:

  • Champion the culture of NAC and ensure a positive work environment, with a start-up mentality
  • Coordinate all phases of store design from floorplan development stages through to construction and project administration while honoring budget, schedules & operational requirements
  • Create retail floorplans, interior & exterior elevations in tandem with the Retail, construction & architectural teams for new stores, expanded or renovated retail stores
  • Provide clear, effective and timely communication of design direction and changes
  • Create store fixture plans for new stores and capital projects
  • Coordinate and manage projects for stores with a focus on spatial planning and procurement of fixtures, furniture and accessories
  • Prepare cost estimates for all materials and store design elements
  • Review and process shop drawings and material specifications
  • Assist with the procurement process for materials, millwork, fixtures etc.
  • Plan check design drawings to ensure design intent and requirements are met and followed by assigned architects, consultants and vendors
  • Present completed store floorplans and storefront design concepts to internal stakeholders for final approval
  • Stay current with industry trends for retail design and consumer experience
  • Manage people and processes; to include business partners, vendors, consultants and internal stakeholders
  • Ensure compliance with federal, provincial and municipal regulations, from a retail store design and marketing perspective
  • Take design feedback from several stake-holders and translate into workable solutions without giving up brand identity and specific design elements
  • Perform other functions pertinent to the role as requested by the Director, Retail

Qualifications

 Skills & Experience

  • Progressive leadership experience in commercial interior design, retail design, interior or architectural design or equivalent
  • Experienced in reading floorplans, site plans, architectural drawings, electrical & reflected ceiling plans
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD & Adobe Creative Suite is considered an asset but not a requirement
  • Excellent understanding of proportion and ability to translate ideas, form and function into a cohesive design concept with minimal supervision
  • Keen understanding of materials, fabrication methods and construction details
  • Knowledge of the Cannabis industry (or similar regulated industry) is an asset
  • Dynamic, energetic & results-driven with a sense of urgency. Action orientated.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to superb execution
  • Creative & courageous, with the ability to manage in an environment of change & ambiguity to help us take bold, strategic moves in this rapidly evolving retail environment
  • Outstanding people management skills, with the ability communicate and influence up, down and across the organization
  • Excellent judgment in decision-making, problem solving, and ability to clearly explain your perspective to others
  • Works well in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment where initiative, leadership & flexibility are drivers for success

Working Environment & Travel

  • Some travel across Canada may be required on occasion.
  • Office working environment. Located in Toronto’s west end.
