Associate Scientist, R&D
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Natera R&D BioDev team is seeking a highly motivated Associate Scientist with experience in both assay development and automation to join our rapidly growing CLIA Lab support team. In this role, you will work collaborate other scientists and laboratory technicians to plan and execute studies under design control in a regulated environment to help improve and expand Natera's next-generation sequencing assays and Women's Health product portfolio.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborate with cross-functional team to provide CLIA lab daily support on existing and future production assays.
- Work cross functionally to design, develop and validate high-throughput automated NGS-related methods following general instructions.
- Work with Clinical Laboratory and Quality Assurance to ensure that developed methods meet Natera’s rigorous quality standards.
- Moderate to high degree of independence for managing studies.
- Responsible for early stage data analysis and interpretation.
- Write documentation and SOPs, and train CLIA lab team operators on protocols.
- Participate in post-launch surveillance by troubleshooting production issues, performing root cause analysis, and identifying areas for continuous improvement.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- MS with 3 years of related experience OR a PhD with 1-2 years experience in nuclei assay development and automation in CLIA lab environment.
- Demonstrated track record of development and validation of automated protocols.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Strong understanding of the chemistry underlying nuclei acid extraction, PCR, NGS library preparation, and hybrid capture technologies.
- Hands-on experience with nucleic acid techniques and next generation sequencing related assays.
- Experience working in a regulated CLIA laboratory environment.
- Experience implementing, optimizing, and troubleshooting high-throughput automated assays.
- Demonstrate ability to independently plan, design and execute studies.
- Ability to troubleshoot and provide recommendations for RCA.
- Data analysis skills, coding proficiency (Python or R), and liquid handler programming experience are a plus..
- Excellent communication, organizational, record-keeping, planning, attention to detail and time management skills.
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with other groups (CLIA, QA, Automation, Reagent team, and data science team).
