About the Role
The Unreal Engine Environment Artist will be working daily under the guidance of our Technical Director and Head Of Visuals. They will be working on creating true to life sets and environments within Unreal Engine to support our Production and Camera Teams in helping visualize what the real video will look like. They will be responsible for translating building blueprints, topography graphs and other documents to ensure that each project is correctly scaled and accurate to the real world environment. They will also be responsible for the creation of the landscape, buildings and other set assets needed as guided by the project lead.
Our ideal candidate will be someone who works well under pressure and short turn around times with a high level to detail. Due to the nature of Youtube, we are constantly working on multiple projects at a time and all of them at different stages.Because of this, they will need to be an organized person who understands our project needs are constantly changing and they will need to adapt accordingly.
What you’ll be doing:
- Environment Art (3D Modeling, Asset Creation, Set Dressing, Advanced Materials, Lighting, Optimization)
- Owning an environment from concept art all the way through to delivery, from initial blockout to modeling, surfacing and lighting
- Interpeting Scouting Documents and translating true to life scale & design into Unreal Engine to ensure accuracy (Building Blueprints,Topography Graphs, image references, etc.)
- Collaborating with our Creative Team to ensure the project meets the creative vision
- Propose pipeline and technology improvements to our Technical Director
- Maintain, organize, source and manage library of digital environment assets, and preparing, optimizing and importing digital assets into Unreal Engine
- Assist in optimizing performance on projects
What makes you a fit:
- Expert knowledge in building environments in Unreal Engine 5 and utilizing the latest features (Lumen, Nanite, World Partition, etc)
- Expert proficiency in 3D workflow areas including modeling, sculpting, surfacing, lighting, rendering and scene building & lookdev
- Proficiency in using 3D modeling software such as Blender, 3ds Max, zBrush or Maya
- Experience in Substance Designer/Painter or other texturing software, Houdini and procedural content creation are a bonus
- Experience in designing real world assets in Unreal Engine or Twinmotion
- Strong problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and optimize assets for performance
- Knowledge of Physically Based Rendering workflow and implementing it within Unreal Engine’s Material system
- Basic understanding of Camera, Movie Render Queue,and Rendering functionalities within Unreal Engine
- Excellent team working skills and the ability to receive constructive criticism
- Willing to learn new workflows, plugins and processes, as well as an interest to experiment and learn new tools and software relating to Environment Design.
