The Mozilla Foundation has launched a multi-year investment strategy focused on advancing ‘Trustworthy artificial intelligence’ globally. Our strategy requires effective and consistent earned media, as well as outreach to key partners including tech developers, tech investors, consumers, and policymakers. Reporting to the Director of Advocacy, the Senior Manager, Marketing is responsible for crafting a visible, effective presence for Mozilla and our work. Duties include the creation and execution of a strategic, goal-based, data-centric marketing plan to promote our brand identity, to help drive interest and collaboration with our work, and to expand outreach to target audiences using a wide variety of mechanisms.

The successful candidate is highly organized, creative, opportunistic, self-starter — and most of all, ready to attract and engage key people around impactful collaborations with Mozilla! Those who excel in this role are quick learners, able to generate high-quality materials for both on and offline use, and adept marketers able to reach targeted audiences.

Key responsibilities:

Strategy Development (20%)

  • Build and execute comprehensive marketing plans using current trends, approaches, and tools to meet our Trustworthy AI goals 
  • Develop strategies and plans that best leverage and complement earned media, executive comms, and PR strategies
  • Measure the effectiveness of the marketing strategies and update/refine plans as needed
  • Develop and manage spending against strategic goals and efficiency measures

Marketing & Brand Building (60%)

  • Build marketing strategies that advance our Trustworthy AI strategy and programmatic goals
  • Develop and execute audience-specific marketing plans, collateral materials, online and offline events, and engagement opportunities that elevate Mozilla’s visibility and activities among key audiences including tech developers, tech investors, and tech + policy thought leaders globally
  • Develop marketing plans for our key publications, reports, and projects to ensure they reach key audiences and work with marketing/distribution requirements
  • Plan, develop, and place paid advertising, polls, and sponsorships to effectively reach key audiences
  • Cultivate and coordinate staff and leadership attendance at conferences, meetings, events, and other opportunities to maximize opportunities to reach our key audiences with the right message
  • Leverage external brand, messaging and advertising guidance and resources, as needed 

Management (20%)

  • Effectively manage marketing efforts, including staff and consultants within the team 
  • Project manage cross-organizational efforts as needed 
  • Develop, manage and evaluate spending of marketing budget
  • Work with the leadership team to participate in activities related to our strategic and organizational development

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum of 7 years in marketing or blended marketing roles
  • Experience creatively developing a brand to match an organization's vision/mission/strengths with its key audiences in mind
  • Experience promoting brand identity and developing branding policies
  • Proven planning skills to develop and implement comprehensive, proactive marketing strategies that support institutional goals
  • Proven ability to write, develop, and manage promotional materials and activities (print, online/web, multimedia, social networking)
  • Experience devising marketing & sales strategies based on market findings/analysis, using multiple channels/strategies for reaching a target audience and meeting goals
  • Experience analyzing the operational and budget efficiency of various marketing strategies, mechanisms, alternatives
  • Supervisory experience: hiring, training, evaluating and mentoring staff. Experience promoting a positive work environment
  • Strong interpersonal communication and demonstrated ability to establish and sustain credibility with all colleagues, leadership, and consultants
