The Firefox team is looking for a User Research Director who can lead a team to understand Firefox users so that we can better serve them, and our mission, with products and services. We are looking for a Director who is excited to build a qualitative and quantitative mixed-methods research group, growing from our core strength in qualitative methods. The Director of User Research will also prioritize and lead the team’s ongoing work of discovering user problems and contexts; shaping the design of products; and following through on product outcomes at scale.
As a User Research Director at Mozilla, you will
- Lead a team of user researchers to collaborate across disciplines including Product Management, Data Science, Data Engineering, Product Engineering, Content Strategy, and User Experience Design.
- Educate the Firefox organization about user research techniques and how to integrate user research insights into the product development process.
- Facilitate a user-centered design and product development process that advocates for users’ needs and perspectives.
- Provide a supportive environment for team members to continue to grow their research capabilities and produce their best work.
- Lead vendor selections, external resource contracts, and budgets.
- Be responsible for the overall User Research plan for Firefox, driving activities and schedules based on the technical and product requirements of the organization.
- Communicate insights across the organization, to a variety of audiences from product teams to executives
- Represent the User Research team internally and externally, and support the team in their outward communication -- from professional spheres (conferences, publications) to general audiences (blogging).
- You have 10+ years of experience working in user research in an industry setting.
- You have 3+ years of experience managing an in-house user research team
- You have deep knowledge and experience with both quantitative and qualitative user-research methods (usability testing, cognitive walkthroughs, 1:1 user interviews, remote testing, contextual inquiry, field studies, surveys, eye-tracking, and multivariate analysis.)
- You care about users and their experiences on a deep level, and strive to make connections with them.
- You enthusiastically stay up-to-date on research techniques, emerging research tools, and academic literature.
- You have experience working in a distributed organization.
- You have a demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage complex organizational research needs.
- You have an advanced degree, or equivalent experience, in design, human computer interaction, cognitive science, experimental psychology, anthropology, information science, or related field.
