About the Position:

The Addiction Psychiatrist will provide direct care (Psychiatric Evaluation and Medication Management) to assigned clients at all Levels of Care. He/she will work with the multidisciplinary teams in Detox, Residential and Outpatient services to assure coordinated and integrated psychiatric care to all assigned clients. He/she will provide input in establishing new psychiatric and addiction treatment initiatives at Mountainside. The Addiction Psychiatrist will assist in teaching and training of Medical Students, Psych-NP Students and Advanced Psychiatric Practitioner new-hires and will serve as a resource to the multidisciplinary team on Addiction Medicine and Addiction Psychiatry. The Addiction Psychiatrist will provide MD coverage for responsibilities requiring the services of a Medical Doctor as needed.

Schedule:

Monday - Friday: 9:00 am - 5:30 pm with on-call hours as needed

Your Role:

  • Performs and documents psychiatric evaluations and medication management for clients across the continuum of care (Detox, Residential, Outpatient), under established referral procedures;
  • Completes and documents mental status examinations, safety assessments, and assesses client’s appropriateness for level of care;
  • Participates and provides input/leadership in clinical team meetings for Detox, Residential and Outpatient services, and practices as a member of these multi-disciplinary team(s);
  • Gains understanding of Detox protocols and collaborates with Detox Nursing Staff to determine/order detox protocol medications and adjust taper protocols;
  • Provides Medication Assisted Treatments to assigned clients at all levels of care;
  • Supports Medication Assisted Treatment initiatives at Mountainside and participates in expansion of other evidence-based treatments;
  • Completes MAT-Buprenorphine Consultations to determine client appropriateness for Suboxone ™ / Sublocade ™ in collaboration with the Assistant Medical Director 
  • Coordinates and collaborates with other Mountainside departments to assure seamless transitions and highest quality services for clients at Mountainside;
  • Takes role in teaching Addiction Psychiatry to medical students, APRN students and in the onboarding/training of Psych-NP new hires;
  • Orders medications for assigned clients utilizing Electronic Prescribing procedures;
  • Orders appropriate laboratory or diagnostic procedures;
  • Assists in crisis situations;
  • Acts as a resource to Clinical team in providing education and information pertinent to addiction psychiatry and addiction medicine;
  • Works with clinical management teams to develop/improve, implement and monitor evidence-based practices in addiction and psychiatric treatment;
  • Implements strategies to promote mental health and wellbeing with clients;
  • Assists in developing goals and metrics for psychiatry and addiction/detox services and assists in monitoring outcomes and trends through Key Performance Indicators;
  • Works with Outcomes department to develop new measures, Best Practices and to improve client care;
  • Participates in Infection Control, Quality Improvement, Peer Review activities and committee meetings as assigned;
  • Uses Universal Precautions at all times;
  • Upholds all rules and regulations governing the client’s confidentiality;
  • Demonstrates excellent skills in communicating with clients, families, referents and other community providers;
  • Completes required documentation and other paperwork/assignments in the expected time frame;
  • Attends seminars, workshops and conferences as required by Mountainside;
  • Maintains Relias Training, as required;
  • Maintains current state license/registrations, DEA Certifications, Controlled Substance Registrations, CPR Certification, and Malpractice Insurance, and maintains copies on file with Mountainside;
  • Maintains client medical health records according to State of New York OASAS, State of CT DPH, CARF, Joint Commission, OSHA and Mountainside policies and procedures;
  • Ensures that established policies and procedures are followed;
  • Ensures compliance with applicable State and Federal Regulations regarding prescribing practices; 

Qualifications:

  • MD Degree
  • Has completed US accredited residency program in psychiatry
  • Has completed accredited Addiction Psychiatry fellowship
  • Board Certified in Psychiatry
  • Board Certified in Addiction Medicine and/or Addiction Psychiatry
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience practicing as a psychiatric practitioner in a clinical setting preferred
  • Maintains current CT license and DEA license/registration
  • Experienced in addiction and co-occurring disorders
  • Certified to prescribe Buprenorphine
  • Maintains a current CPR certification

Compensation:

The base rate of pay for this position is $290,000 to $325,000 per year. Actual pay is determined based on a number of job-related factors including skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope and complexity of role responsibilities, geographic location, performance, and working conditions.
