📍London / UK Remote | 💰 £110,000 - £130,000 + Benefits | A week in the life of a Product Manager at Monzo

About us:

We’re here to make money work for everyone and we're doing things differently. For too long, banking has been obtuse, complex and opaque.

We want to change that and build a bank with everyone, for everyone. Our amazing community suggests features, test the app and give us constant feedback so we can build something everyone loves.

We're focused on solving problems, rather than selling financial products. We want to make the world a better place and change people's lives through Monzo.

About our Product Team:

The challenge of making money work for everyone is huge and complex. Imagine building FAANG level tech but in a regulated market - the possibilities are huge, but with exciting challenges paired alongside.

The potential impact of Monzo is enormous and we’re only 1% done. Digital banking has 15-20% adoption globally. We have the opportunity to impact millions, if not, billions of people’s lives.

We’re still a scaling team with tons to accomplish. There’s many 0 to 1 greenfield projects where you can make a huge impact. The scope of your role as a PM at Monzo is massive and filled with opportunity. We believe great ideas come from everywhere, and that flat, autonomous teams produce the best outcomes for Monzo and our customers.

You won’t be building buttons or banners (although that could be a small part), you’ll be building entire new products.

These new Product roles will sit within Personal Banking - this is our Core App experience and everything you think of when you think of Monzo! This includes the Monzo Current Account, savings pots, bill splitting, get paid early, and lots of other core features. We're hiring Product Managers who will build the strategy, own the roadmap, and work on large core products.

What you’ll be working on:

  • Develop our understanding of our users at a deep level, building a strategy to help them reduce anxiety over money and feel more in control of their finances
  • Work with a multidisciplinary team to find the best path to creating meaningful value for our customers while meeting our business objectives. This could involve building new features, improving existing features, or changing the way we work operationally and the non-software features we offer customers.
  • Work iteratively and collaboratively with design, engineering, research, legal, compliance and many others to refine your plan and execute against it effectively.
  • Build. Make changes. Ship. Fast, iteratively, and in control.
  • Track and monitor how we’re doing with core metrics for your area, and new ones you develop with the team for the work you’re doing. Iterate and improve on your work to hit our goals and create value for our customers.

Your day-to-day:

  • You’ll own the product roadmap for your area, shaping the strategy for what the squad will focus on and how you’ll get there.
  • You’ll be driving hypotheses and experimentation-centric approaches. We work iteratively - taking the time to test our hypotheses and iteratively making changes based on data.
  • You’ll work in a cross functional squad with Engineers, Designers, Data Scientists, and other team members, bringing them along on the journey to solve problems together, collaboratively.
  • You’ll prioritise user research and developing a deep understanding of our users at a deep level, overall focusing on helping them to reduce anxiety over money and help them build financial health.
  • You’ll be the pivot between senior leadership, aiming to understand business objectives, and product, ensuring the team has the right core metrics in place to meet these needs (and tracking that we’re reaching them).

You should apply if:

  • Customer centric - You prioritise what customers want and you drive customer centric thinking within your team. You can demonstrate how you’ve put customers at the forefront in your previous product teams.
  • Product experience - You’ve shipped complex and high impact products in a world-class product-led company. Ideally, you’ll have extensive experience working on consumer facing mobile app products.
  • Hypothesis and Data Driven - You value the importance of data, and can clearly demonstrate how you’ve driven experimentation and hypotheses testing within your previous product teams.
  • Team structures - You’ll be familiar working within cross functional squad structures, partnering closely with Engineers and Designers, driving a collaborative and psychologically safe culture where everyone can share ideas. You have experience working in a team that ships at pace.
  • Growth Mindset - We encourage a growth mindset within our teams; we fail quickly, we learn from our mistakes, and we take accountability.
  • Passion - We’re passionate about what we’re doing here at Monzo! We know we still have a long way to go to make money work for everyone, and our Product team is a key part of that journey.

The Interview Process:

Our interview process involves 3 main stages:

  • Recruiter Call (30 mins) - Once you apply, if your application is aligned, one of our Hiring team will reach out to you for an introductory conversation.
  • Initial Chat (45 mins) - This will be an introductory conversation with one of our Product leaders.
  • Product Loop (3 hours) - This stage consists of 3 separate interviews that usually happen across 1-2 days. This will be made up of a Project Walkthrough, a Case Study, and a Leadership Interview. Making Monzo work for everyone starts right at the beginning of every Monzonaut's journey: when they apply to work here. This demographic survey will help us better understand the people who apply to work at Monzo. It'll help us see how different groups progress through our hiring process, and where we need to make improvements to be more inclusive. If you choose to fill it out, all of the information you give us is:

  • Voluntary. And we've included a "prefer not to say" option for every question. It'd be helpful if you still fill out the survey even if you choose "prefer not to say" for every question, as it's useful for us to understand & record this. We won't know if you choose to fill this survey in or not.
  • Anonymous to Monzo. We can't tie your responses to you and they won't make a difference to the outcome of your application. We'll only use grouped responses for equal opportunities monitoring in our hiring process.

By filling out this survey, you agree that we can use your responses for the purposes we've mentioned above. You are not letting us know if we need to make any adjustments to the hiring process because of disability or neurodiversity - to do this please email us.
