We're looking for a highly proactive, enthusiastic and commercially-minded technical accountant to work in our Financial Reporting squad, and help us build a world-class finance function.

You’ll work on scaling Monzo in a controlled way, while helping us optimise our financial reporting and technical accounting with the help of technology. You’ll join the Finance team and report to our Director of Financial Reporting.

The role 

You will: 

  • Support the Finance Collective with technical accounting issues facing the bank, preparing technical accounting papers and reviewing papers prepared by the Financial Reporting squad.
  • Proactively review previous accounting interpretations, estimates and judgements to ensure best practice.
  • Help Monzo optimise the use of International Financial Reporting Standards to support us growing safely.
  • Support the Financial Reporting team prepare the Annual Report and assist with technical accounting issues raised during our annual audit.
  • Be a key contributor on our journey to become a publicly listed company, helping project manage technical accounting and disclosure requirements.
  • Review new products, Treasury investments (e.g. derivatives) and hedging strategies to ensure compliance with IFRS, finding imaginative solutions to optimise business outcomes.
  • Understand the business and our products so that you can write insightful management commentary.
  • Be responsible for making sure our accounting policies are up to date, relevant and useful for Monzo and importantly are scalable.
  • Work with our engineers and data analysts to automate the production elements of this role, allowing you to focus on the parts of the role where your knowledge and skills provide the most value.
  • Work with the business to assess the impact of changes in accounting standards and make proposals on accounting policy matters for new product launches.
  • This is a technical role, but as a growing firm getting involved in projects and supporting the Financial Reporting squad and Finance Collective more broadly is key to the role’s success. 

You should apply if 

  • You’re a qualified accountant, and have had experience in interpreting and solving complex technical accounting and financial reporting issues.
  • Ideally you’d have experience in Banking or Financial Services, but being able to demonstrate understanding of IFRS and experience solving accounting issues is key.
  • International experience and understanding legal entity structures would be a bonus.
  • You’re a self-starter and enjoy tackling what needs doing, whether it’s writing a paper, helping with a new product or pulling together reports for investors.
  • You’re a team player, we work best as a supportive and collaborative team.
  • You’re fascinated by the banking and regulatory landscape that a growing challenger bank faces.
  • You’re comfortable translating complex information into simple words for people with diverse backgrounds.
  • You’re interested in using data (SQL skills would be a bonus)
  • You thrive in a dynamic and constantly evolving environment

This role is based in our London office, so we’d like to see you in the office a few days a week.
