Mojang is looking for an experienced Game Designer that will focus on the three C’s (Camera, Control, Character). You will help shape games from their inception all the way to release. Working in close collaboration with creative leads to design, implement and polish compelling combat experiences that support the creative vision for the game. You will iterate and balance combat systems and character movement, helping create a cohesive and exhilarating experience. Creatively, you will report to the project's lead designer.   


Responsibilities:

  • Work with the creative leads to design character behavior that fits the game's vision
  • Take ownership of features from ideation to implementation, iterating and polishing along the way, resulting in interesting and varied combat experiences
  • Work closely with other designers, with a strong focus on the short-term game-play loops.
  • Design and tune combat scenarios and associated systems such as: player powers, items, abilities, and AI (enemy behavior)
  • Experiment and iterate on character and camera controls to create a satisfying and responsive feeling in the game
  • Communicate rationales, design choices and feedback, within the project and to the studio at large
  • Communicate and collaborate with visual artists, audio teams and game developers to ensuring we follow our creative vision for Minecraft

Qualifications:
To succeed in this role, we believe that you have some of the following:

  • Strong knowledge of combat design and general game design
  • Shipped multiple titles in a game design position
  • Experience with various game engines (Unity, Unreal etc)
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in written form, to support your vision
  • Desire to be part of a creative and highly collaborative team and ability to take feedback and direction
