POSITION SUMMARY
We are looking for a hands-on and highly organized Associate Director, Human Resources to oversee HR functions for our European employees. This role requires a deep understanding of European HR compliance and regulations, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage relationships with benefit brokers and external partners across multiple countries. The ideal candidate is comfortable rolling up their sleeves to get things done in a fast-paced environment while ensuring our HR operations run smoothly and efficiently. The position will be based in Zug, but the ideal candidate will need to visit our Basel office on a regular basis.
JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Point of contact for employees as HR issues arise across Europe, providing practical support and guidance on HR policies, benefits, employee relations, and compliance.
- Manage relationships with external vendors related to the HR function, ensuring the smooth operation of these services in all international locations.
- Make sure our benefits and compensation packages are competitive across countries by conducting annual market assessments and recommending adjustments as needed.
- Handle onboarding and offboarding for employees, so they experience a seamless process which is compliant with local requirements.
- Support recruitment efforts as needed in partnership with the Global Talent Acquisition team.
- Act as a culture champion, ensuring that the company's values are embedded throughout the employee lifecycle. Serve as a lead member of the Culture Crew, actively participating and planning initiatives to support a positive and inclusive work environment.
- Manage HR audits when necessary.
- Provide support with our vendor to meet the international occupational health and safety requirements, preparing necessary documentation, and ensuring compliance within each country.
- Responsible for managing employee permit certificates and ensuring compliance with immigration and work authorization requirements requested by employees.
- Create slide decks and represent the HR department in various international meetings.
- Support the international compliance team with GDPR requirements.
- Travel required to Basel and Zug office depending on permanent location.
- Some travel required to US HQ and various international offices to support teams.
- Partner with the Office Manager on various projects.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in HR operations within Europe (specifically Switzerland), with hands-on experience managing HR in pharmaceutical or life sciences companies preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong background in managing benefits programs and working with benefit brokers across European markets.
- Comprehensive knowledge of European employment laws, regulations, and HR best practices, with the ability to ensure compliance across different jurisdictions.
- Previous experience working for a company who has an office in the US.
- Proven ability to manage HR operations in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, with the capacity to take on additional regions as the company expands.
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships at all levels.
- Experience with HR systems and leveraging technology to enhance operational efficiency.
- Proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint with the ability to create clear and impactful presentations for various HR initiatives.
- Experience working in a matrix organization.
- GDPR knowledge strongly preferred.
