New Vacancy – In-house Thai Translator

Mintel is a global market intelligence company, headquartered in London, UK. We work with the world’s most renowned consumer packaged goods companies, suppliers and academic institutions. Building on its success, Mintel has decided to expand its service to Thai-speaking clients, and is looking for a Thai Translator to join its growing Digital Publishing team.


This opportunity will offer you the chance to develop your expertise as a linguist, specialising in translation with advanced technological skills, as well as building knowledge on market trends and consumer behaviour.   

Your responsibilities will include:


  • Translating Mintel content from English to Thai, ensuring the target text with maximal fluency and free of errors, literal translations and cumbersome expressions that are directly transferred, so the Thai content is readily comprehensible to all readers


  • Proofreading, editing, revising and finalising translated content including visual charts to ensure format (e.g. font and structure) and language (e.g. spelling, grammar, punctuation, industry-specific terminology) accuracy


  • Ensuring that all content across Mintel Thai pages are consistent and in line with Mintel style


  • Performing on-demand translation tasks from Thai to English


  • Preparing, managing and maintaining the Thai language materials (including Termbase, Style Guides, Translation Memories) up to the quality standards and up to date


  • Collaborating with other translators and localisation specialists to resolve questions on terminology and language matters


  • Liaising effectively with colleagues in different offices to discuss any unclear points


  • Working as part of the team to ensure all departmental deadlines are met


  • Participating in the development of new and improved working process


Qualifications required:


  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Translation or relevant subjects


  • Native speaker of Thai and near native proficiency in English, with excellent ability to write in Thai and English fluently and idiomatically

Abilities and skills:

  • Heightened attention to details


  • A good command of CAT tools, in particular Trados


  • Comfortable with digital work on an in-house CMS


  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft packages and HTML


  • Ability to learn new localization tools/applications and publishing formats/ styles quickly


  • Ability to work effectively and be able to meet tight deadlines


  • Ability to analyse the macrostructure of the content and its overall coherence; reading critically and ask questions


  • Ability to cross-reference open resources for subject background information


  • Strong commercial awareness


  • Well-grounded understanding of or interests in consumer markets would be an added advantage
