In Asia Pacific, Mintel has been successfully delivering market intelligence and consumer insights for over 20 years. We are now accelerating our investment to build on the success of our existing Japan business. We are looking for freelance analysts to join its expanding Tokyo based team.

Our expert analysts help a wide range of businesses develop the products of tomorrow and give them the necessary edge to compete in an ever-evolving, fast-paced industry. This role will help support the Mintel’s expanding syndicated report focus global trend and Japan consumers.

Mintel’s Syndicated Reports are covering a variety of Japanese consumer markets identifying the key issues facing global and domestic trends, manufacturers, suppliers and retailers

The ideal candidate has an in depth knowledge of the region, and can demonstrate experience of turning consumer and trend research into bold, actionable insight. This experience could be on the client side or from a research/marketing strategy firm, but you need to be confident with working with data, as well as capable of translating this into engaging content for our clients.


Job Deliverables:

l Help coordinate our global trend and Japan consumer research, and to work with global team and Japan team to ensure the report scope and questions are relevant for local market needs.


l Write insightful content about global trends and Japan consumers that impact company strategy, brand development, innovation and consumer behavior. You will be using a wide range of research tools, including primary and secondary sources alongside quantitative and qualitative consumer research to create content to a monthly publishing schedule.


l Build relationships with industry contacts to understand the key issues influencing consumers, innovation and company strategy, identifying the most relevant issues to explore in consumer research


l Contribute to brainstorming and strategy meetings and help support other teams across the business. Analysts have daily contact with a wide range of teams in other areas of the company.


Person Specification:

  • 2-5 years’ experience working with consumer research and trends
  • Excellent Japanese writing and presenting skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to think quickly and creatively
  • Knowledge of consumer markets in other countries would be an advantage
