Minerva Analytics, the latest team to emerge from Cogo’s proven incubator model, is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to join our team. Using Cogo’s extensive data warehouse, the Minerva team is building communities of users on the internet through a combination of rapid-development web property tools, scalable user acquisition, and extensive competitive and performance analysis. At our core we are a media company that employs data-driven, analytical methodologies to create profitable web businesses.
About the role:
As the Principal Software Engineer at Minerva, you will have the opportunity to design, implement, and scale Minerva’s technological platform alongside the existing Minerva Engineering team. We will look to you to set the technical direction for Minerva’s platform, while diving in and helping that vision come to life. Your technical mentorship will help elevate the rest of the Engineering team, leading by example to help grow and develop the Engineering skills and culture at Minerva. You will work closely with Engineering Leadership to help size, prioritize, and communicate technical tasks with those outside the Engineering organization.
Architect solutions for growing and scaling Minerva’s internal tool supporting our media platform
Build maintainable and performant software in many diverse areas (web apps, backend processes, internal libraries, etc.)
Mentor the entire Engineering team around best technical practices in order to grow a culture of Engineering Excellence
Identifying and investigating emerging technology opportunities to better serve Minerva’s Media Brand platform
Communicate tradeoffs to senior leadership around approach, prioritization, and rational for technical direction
Participate in Agile ceremonies, helping the Engineering team continuously improve over time
6 or more years of experience in software development
Experience leading and/or mentoring a small team of Engineers
Demonstrated ability to create, plan, and execute longer term technical vision spanning multiple products and systems
Extremely familiar with designing, implementing, and working with REST or similar APIs.
Experience designing relational DB architectures for medium to large scale projects.
An excellent verbal and written communicator who can work directly with technical and non-technical project managers.
Bonus points for:
Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
Professional experience building applications in React or Django
Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Cloud Platforms, and CI/CD pipelines
Expert-level skill with something unrelated to computers (Legos, an instrument, carpentry, precision ax-throwing, anything).
