I. JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for monitoring performance metrics and trends of the RFIs held in the funds’ portfolios and supporting Senior Management in assessing and managing portfolio risk. The Analyst will report to the Director of Risk, and will work in close collaboration with designated Investment Team members in managing assigned portfolio and with other Portfolio Team members to ensure timely and thorough analysis for investment management decisions.

II. RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:

Job Responsibilities:

Portfolio Monitoring (70%-80%)

· Monitor performance metrics and trends of assigned portfolio companies; analyze trends/red-flags and raise issue to the attention of Director of Risk and Director of Credit

o Monitor assigned portfolio company compliance with reporting requirements and financial covenants

o Perform financial statement analysis using standardized financial analysis templates and

upload to Portfolio database (quarterly); follow up with clients to resolve issues

o Highlight trends/issues and follow up with relevant Investment Officers

o Participate in quarterly update calls with portfolio companies and relevant Investment Officer

o Periodically update credit risk scoring models

· Prepare monthly reports on assigned portfolio companies designated as Watch List (if any); participate in monthly Watch List meeting and follow up on issues/action plans

· Maintain corporate database of assigned portfolio company financial information

o Monitor integrity and timeliness of data in corporate portfolio database

o Prepare reports from corporate database to identify portfolio risk characteristics and identify trends

o Prepare periodic written analyses of individual portfolio companies, including investment performance and valuation

o Update credit rating scores using MV proprietary internal obligor and sovereign scoring models, with support of responsible Investment Officer

Underwriting Support – (estimate 20-30% of the time)

o Provide underwriting support to the Investment Team and Investment Officers as directed

o Perform country risk analysis – economic, political, regulatory, business environment, financial sector

o Perform financial analysis of prospective and existing portfolio companies

o Assist in the preparation of Deal Alerts and Investment Committee Memos

oSupport Investment Team due diligence and monitoring activities, attend regional conferences

o Support the closing/disbursement process as needed

 

III. WORKING CONDITIONS

Washington, D.C. Metro Area with frequent international travel (approx. 25% time)

 

IV. QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will:

1) Have a Bachelor’s degree and 1-2 years of work experience in the financial sector

2) Have work experience or academic training in business and financial statement analysis

3) Experience and interest in international development or finance, particularly in emerging markets

4) Have strong analytical skills

5) High level of proficiency with Excel and Microsoft Office software and have experience and interest in database management and reporting

6) Be able to multi-task well

7) Have strong initiative (be a self-starter), attention to detail, and solution-orientation

8) Possess superior organizational and communication skills.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Bachelor’s degree plus 1-2 years of work experience
  • Business level proficiency in Spanish
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Office software and working with databases
  • Superior organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Strong interpersonal skills and team mentality
  • Strong analytic capacity and excellent written verbal and written communication skills

PREFERENCE GIVEN TO THE FOLLOWING

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, International Relations
  • Experience with financial statement analysis and knowledge of financial accounting gained either directly from job experience or academic training
  • Database management proficiency and IT experience
  • Strong interest in international finance and development; knowledge of the microfinance sector a plus
