Mic is seeking an experienced shooter/editor to join its correspondent reporting team. The team is focused on producing short to mid-form videos on one of Mic’s core areas, ranging from grassroots movements and activism, modern civil rights issues, women and LGBT issues and emerging artists.
This shooter/editor will play an integral role in defining Mic’s field reporting style. Many of the videos will be filmed out of the office, during moments of breaking news and on scheduled reporting trips. The shooter/editor should have ample experience with filming live events in unpredictable environments.
Versatility is key to success in this role, and candidates should feel comfortable leveraging a range of shooting and editing techniques, with experience in everything from in-studio teleprompter shoots with celebrities and politicians, to handheld short-form documentaries. The ideal candidate should be comfortable shooting with a wide range of cameras. In post production, candidate should also have an understanding of proper workflows including transcoding, pulling selects, and collaborating with producers to achieve the best possible product.
Shoot (in office and in the field) for Mic's short-form (1-5 minute) videos
Edit, in collaboration with writers and producers to maintain Mic’s editorial voice
Collaborate with Mic’s graphics team to produce original treatments specific to new projects
5+ years experience in video production (ideally 1+ in field production).
Extensive technical knowledge in 3-point lighting, experience with in-camera audio using lavalier and shotgun microphones, white balance, ISO, composition, variable frame rates, etc.
Highly skilled in Adobe Premiere and proficient in Photoshop, After Effects, audio sweetening, minor motion graphics work, transcoding, QCing final products and managing deliverables.
Proficient with Canon line of cameras, including the C100 & C300
Passion for journalism, nonfiction storytelling and visual experimentation
Deep understanding of visual composition and set design
