Mic is looking for an Editor who can help shape coverage of our social justice channel for a one month contract. The editor will work closely with our Editorial Director of Culture to assign and edit daily news and features. We’re looking for an editor with institutional knowledge of news and culture, who can form and field smart pitches around breaking news and major events, help our reporters define their beat coverage and enhance our work.
This is a one month contract based in our New York City office.
Monitor real-time news and social media conversations for social justice stories.
Work with a team of culture reporters, fielding pitches and refining story ideas for creative and unique angles.
Work closely with channel editors to coordinate coverage of larger news events.
Note: Weekend work is possible, given the nature of the news cycle.
3-5 years of previous editing and reporting experience in a digital environment.
Ability to assign and edit stories with a clear and unique angle.
Voracious reader of culture coverage from diverse sources.
Mastery of social media, and understanding of the types of stories that perform well on various social platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.).
Ability to stay organized, meet deadlines, and work well under pressure.
Creative, independent thinker who understands what makes a Mic story.
