Our Engineering Directors co-manage a 30+ person engineering team. You’ll be responsible for hiring, managing the quality, and ensuring delivery with our partners for key accounts. You’ll be responsible for developing our strategy to deliver at scale.

You'll be a leader in winning, delivering, and growing large-scale product delivery or enterprise accounts. You will be bringing strong, insight-driven strategic thinking and technology expertise to the table as you work to establish a shared product vision and technical strategy for our clients and subsequently translate that vision into a clear path forward for delivery. Your role will be critical to helping the team navigate enterprise environments, gaining buy-in on product direction from stakeholders of all levels and backgrounds, and shaping new opportunities for MetaLab. 

You’ll balance multiple priorities - finding yourself defining a product vision on one project, enabling a client and our design and development teams to launch an impactful MVP launch on another, while also having responsibility for business and practice development. On any given day, you’re able to step up and lead or step back and evaluate how to best support your team. 

You’ll collaborate with your engineering peers and other cross-functional teams at MetaLab. You’ll also represent MetaLab in client contexts and public events, so your ability to read a room and articulate with confidence is paramount to your (and our) success. Most importantly, you’ll show undeniable passion for engineering and will thrive in supporting others in achieving their best work. 

Your responsibilities

  • Continuously help us shape, test, and refine new ways of delivering impactful products to market
  • Become a trusted advisor for our client’s executive technology and product leadership
  • Collaborate with the Client Partnerships team to pitch engagements to clients
  • Assist in scoping out the timeline and requirements of engineering engagements
  • Vet, hire, and train new members of the engineering team
  • Conduct vendor and technology assessments to help clients make decisions for their product or business
  • Collaborate with the rest of MetaLab’s cross-discipline leadership team to keep company engagement high
  • Give constructive feedback, and ensure engineers are evaluated and supported on an ongoing basis
  • Foster an open, collaborative, and inclusive environment for the engineering team
  • Roll up your sleeves in the work, providing guidance and direction to project teams when needed
  • Manage our development partners and teams
  • Be active in the engineering community, representing MetaLab and attracting new talent
  • Interact with the design, product, engineering and client team on a daily basis
  • Travel to client meetings as needed

The must-have shortlist

  • Strong experience with web or mobile development, in addition to 10+ years in technical leadership and people management
  • Lead enterprise clients through digital transformation
  • Experience collaborating and working with design and product teams
  • Solid understanding of best in class digital product building process—from start to finish
  • Built and shipped successful products
  • Strength in leading and mentoring—previously led a team of engineers building products
  • Expert-level understanding of software development patterns (including Agile, SCRUM, Kanban etc) and opinions on industry best practices
  • Enjoys taking complex problems and transforming them into elegant and simple solutions
  • Ability to present to clients with credibility, clarity, and confidence
  • Experienced working with clients and procurement in an agency environment
  • Experience leading remote and managing nearshore development teams
  • ​​Knows how to motivate and guide engineers to successful careers
  • Wants to work with world-class companies and great teammates to launch products worth talking about
