About Messari.

Messari is the leading provider of crypto market intelligence products that help professionals navigate crypto/Web3 with confidence. We bring transparency and smarter qualitative and quantitative analytics to the industry by combining a global research database with a comprehensive suite of data visualization and asset discovery tools. We help drive smarter participation in crypto from individuals and institutions alike.

The name “Messari” came from the Franciscan monks who declared "clean books" a moral imperative during the renaissance and pushed merchants to use proper accounting methods.  This led to the flourishing of investment via "trust but verify" methods and industry growth throughout Europe. That's what we aim to do. Provide participants, investors, builders, platforms, and everyone else with reliable information to better participate in the crypto ecosystem.

Our users range from some of the most prominent analysts, investors, and crypto individuals to top organizations including Coinbase, BitGo, Anchorage, 0x, Chainanalysis, Ledger, Compound, MakerDAO, and many more.

We've recently received a $12.5M grant from The Graph Foundation as a partnership to democratize blockchain data. You can read more about it here.

THE ROLE

As a blockchain engineer focusing on on-chain data, you will be contributing to Messari’s effort on democratizing blockchain data. Our goal is to make on-chain data accessible to the off-chain world in a standardized way, to help people make sense of them. In particular, this involves building subgraphs for individual protocols, transforming and aggregating raw blockchain data into high-level metrics, as well as building the necessary tooling/infrastructure to streamline this process. You will also be involved in defining the key metrics surfaced from the underlying protocols, and the standardization of the subgraph schema.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Gain in-depth knowledge of internal workings of various DeFi protocols. Understand the relationship between different smart contracts, important constructs used to track internal states, and event logs emitted for data derivation.
  • Design and implement data pipelines to transform and aggregate raw blockchain data into high-level metrics.
  • Design and implement necessary tooling, testing framework, and libraries to make the process as efficient as possible.
  • Collaborate with Protocol Specialists, Research Analysts, and Product Managers to shape the standardization of schema and metrics.

WHO YOU ARE:

  • 3-5 years of software engineering or data engineering experience
  • Experience shipping production-quality code.
  • Experience building data pipelines (e.g. Spark/Flink, Airflow/Dagster).
  • Have a passion for crypto, smart contracts, and DeFi

NICE TO HAVE:

  • Deep knowledge of the internal workings of at least 1 DeFi protocol.
  • Good knowledge of solidity and EVM.
  • Familiar with Rust, experience with Cosmos/Solana smart contracts.

Salary Ranges for this position (depending upon experience):

  • Associate: $135,000 - $150,000
  • Mid: $150,000 - $185,000
  • Senior: $185,000 - $200,000+
