Director of Events

Remote in the United States 

 

As director of events, you will advance the revenue and work of Mercy For Animals by providing strategic leadership and oversight of the events program and direct all aspects of events hosted or sponsored by Mercy For Animals, including the annual gala in Los Angeles and smaller fundraising events in other key supporter cities.

 

You will spearhead a mission to plan, design, manage, and oversee Mercy For Animals’ event program and ensure the program supports the Development Department and organizational strategies, goals, and objectives by partnering with the major gifts team.

 

You will do invaluable work:

  • Create an annual overarching strategy for fundraising events to increase Mercy For Animals’ brand recognition and significantly expand our fundraising pipelines
  • Plan and execute event strategies designed to support the organization’s strategic goals and objectives
  • Create, seek approval for, monitor, and ensure adherence to event budgets 
  • Scout, select, and book event venues
  • Design event layout, program, flow, and timeline
  • Manage and ensure proper training of event-day volunteers and team members
  • Select vendors, negotiate contracts, and ensure invoice fulfillment 
  • Develop policies and standard operating procedures for Mercy For Animals events
  • Lead a cross-functional team comprising the development team and other departments on events; sponsorship and partnership outreach; and fundraising efforts, including mobile giving, donation cards, and live auctions
  • Conduct post-event analyses, lead event staff, and prepare event analysis reports for leadership and volunteers 
  • Hire, train, and supervise professional staff; establish and monitor goals; provide performance feedback and coaching; and support professional development
  • Follow performance management procedures; manage performance issues; use independent, consistent, and fair judgment in exercising authority 
  • Develop project management procedures, assign and prioritize work, and ensure that the resources needed to accomplish work are provided
  • Prepare annual event budget  
  • Oversee and ensure effective events data management in partnership with the technology team
  • Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the team leader

 

Your qualifications will take our event program to the next level:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public relations, nonprofit management, or communications
  • Five or more years’ experience managing special events
  • Three or more years’ experience in a related field, preferably nonprofit or customer service 
  • Prior experience with sales or donor databases 
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • Efficiency and outstanding organizational skills 
  • Self-motivation with the ability to work well independently and under pressure, manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines 
  • Ability to work creatively and effectively as a team member 
  • Friendly, positive, and customer-service-oriented personality 
  • Professional appearance and adherence to a vegan lifestyle

Compensation and Benefits

Earn an annual salary of $60,000–$70,000, depending on qualifications, and enjoy a commute-free life as an at-home worker. Our paid-time-off policy, including 20 vacation days a year, staff-appreciation days, holidays, and sick leave is as generous as our no- or low-cost health insurance.
