Position Location: Los Angeles, CA or Remote


Position Objective:

Plan, design, develop, oversee, and evaluate all people operations (human resources) initiatives, policies, and programs to support and strengthen organizational culture and advance the strategic goals and vision of Mercy For Animals

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Direct and manage the overall administration of all people operations functions for all MFA offices to ensure compliance with best practices in all aspects of the organization’s activities
  • Provide strategic guidance and operational assistance for diversity, inclusion, and equity, including policies, procedures, training, action plans, and metrics to effectively support leadership accountability
  • Maintain responsibility for organizational compliance with federal, state, and local requirements pertaining to all personnel matters
  • Provide supervision and support to all people operations employees, including global operations managers
  • Oversee the design and implementation of organizational and employee development programs, employee orientation and training programs, recruitment and position management programs, benefits plans, payroll policies and guidelines, database management procedures, equal opportunity employment programs, employee handbooks, and employee records and documentation policies
  • Assist senior leadership in annual performance evaluations and the annual review, preparation, and administration of the organization's compensation plan
  • Annually review and make recommendations to senior leadership for improvement of the organization's policies, procedures, and practices on personnel matters
  • Consult with legal counsel on employee relations and other confidential and sensitive personnel matters, including grievances, harassment, disciplinary actions, and separations as necessary
  • Follow all human resources and operational policies and ensure all people operations program areas are in full compliance

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, or related field (master’s degree preferred)
  • Three to five years’ job experience in human resources, preferably in a leadership capacity
  • PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SCP (preferred) or willingness to obtain within one year of employment
  • Global and cultural awareness
  • Excellent judgment and problem-solving ability
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills
  • Professional appearance and adherence to a vegan lifestyle
