Our Backend Engineers are developing complex software systems that scale to millions of users, all with production quality deployment, monitoring, and reliability.  You will be designing, developing, testing, deploying, maintaining, and improving our mission-critical backend systems. What you'll be doing:

  • Build features for our backend services using technologies like Go and PHP
  • Design distributed systems with microservices architecture running on Kubernetes
  • Work with Product Managers and Designers for the design and specification of our product
  • Collaborate with iOS, Android, Web, Machine Learning, and Data engineers to develop new features for our product
  • Collaborate with QA Engineers to test and deliver the feature with high-quality and high-speed
  • Design and maintain CI pipelines to build, test, and deliver our apps
  • Diagnose and fix bugs and scalability bottlenecks to achieve high quality, efficiency, and reliability.
  • Handle incidents that occur in the production environment and participate in an on call rotation to do so
  • Address security vulnerabilities and issues to enhance the overall security of the system.
  • Write and maintain technical documentation
  • Manage own project requirements, deadlines, and qualities

What you’ll need: :

  • At least 8 years of experience in software engineering
  • Full-time working experience as software engineer with consumer applications
  • Excellent knowledge of data structures and algorithms
  • At least 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages including but not limited to Go, PHP, C++, Java, Python, JavaScript, and Ruby
  • Experience designing, developing, and managing microservices
  • Knowledge of software testing and the ability to write testable code and proper tests
  • Ability to collaborate with team members including Product Managers, Data Scientists, Designer, Engineers, and QA Engineers to solve complex business problems

Nice-to-haves:

  • Deep knowledge of Go or PHP
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field
  • Strong knowledge of container and orchestration technologies like Docker and Kubernetes
  • Experience working on cloud infrastructure like GCP or AWS

 

The applicable salary range for each role is based on where the applicant lives and is aligned to one of 3 zones according to a cost of labor index in that geographic area. Our Talent Acquisition team can help answer any questions about location after starting the recruiting process.

 

Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. 

 

The expected base salary ranges for this role are below. These ranges may be modified in the future. In addition to base salary, Mercari’s total compensation package includes equity and a full range of physical, financial and well-being benefits. Zone 1* $152,000-$218,500

Zone 2** $136,800-$196,700

Zone 3*** $121,600-$174,800
