To succeed in our mission to create a world-class product experience, we have a Design system team that builds the foundation for the Mentimeter product, fueled by our desire to challenge tomorrow’s presentation and meeting experiences. This role will be based in our Stockholm office.

The role

As an Engineering Manager for our design system team, you will be responsible for people, delivery, strategy and for ensuring a team and its stakeholders can depend on high-quality technical work.

In this role you will ensure the team delivers exceptional results, promoting empowerment and sustainable practices. You'll be pivotal in guiding sound decision-making and fostering a productive environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be the line manager of engineers in the team, oversee their well-being and professional development, and actively coach and inspire them to reach their full potential.
  • Be a strong voice for tech in the team and advocate for good practices aligned with our tech strategy. 
  • Foster great collaboration and psychological safety in the team through leading, planning and facilitating agile team rituals like planning, refinement, retros and offsites.
  • Engage in strategic decision-making, collaborating across departments and teams to amplify the impact of the design system.
  • Manage and communicate complex roll-outs of changes across all parts of the Mentimeter product that impact multiple teams, in a way where they feel included and heard.

You will be part of the Design Foundation Area where the design system team resides. As of 2023, we have 4 areas within the Product department; Core, Commercial, Design Foundation and Tech Foundation. 

Skills and Requirements: 

As you will be managing software engineers you must have hands-on experience in front-end development that allows you to comfortably facilitate architectural discussions and  sound technical decisions. Experience working in a design system context is highly desirable.

You are accountable for delivery in the team and to efficiently do that we expect you to have a mindset of constantly pushing boundaries, both engineering and process wise. You also have experience of guiding teams through planning and delivery of modern features. 

Since design system work often involves roll-outs across multiple teams and applications, skills in communication and stakeholder management is an important part of the job in order to break down and deliver complex projects.

Mentimeter is a fast-moving product-led growth company. Therefore you must desire to work in a fast-paced environment where change is the only constant. A good delivery mindset and experience with agile frameworks will help you a lot in this role.

So, who are you?

  • 3+ years of experience as a team lead or managing engineers in leading and managing engineers in a cross-functional agile team
  • Several years of technical experience, working as a front-end engineer or in a  similar role.. If you have a passion for design systems and experience leading and/or working in a design system team that is a huge plus.
  • Strong communication, storytelling, and facilitation skills, fostering unity and inspiring teams.
  • Eagerness to contribute to a fast-growing organization and adapt to changing ways of working.
